Hi everyone, my name is Wilson. You can call me Will if you want, I'd prefer it although it's okay if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be an English teacher and a writer. So I have a degree in English Language and Literature, with a mention in Literature, and I'm currently studying a Master's Degree to be a high school english teacher here in León. Since I like literature so much, though, I'm seriously considering becoming an English (or American) Literature professor somewhere down the line.

I'm mainly interested in 20th century literary fiction in english, but I'm also into more recent literary fiction in spanish so if you're into that and need some recommendations, feel free to reach out.

Some other facts about me: recently I've been told I'm funny and kind of outgoing, which is news to me but I guess I sort of am! When I was growing up, I wanted to write like Stephen King, then I wanted to write like Raymond Carver and now I wish I could write like Richard Siken writes about heartbreak. I'm also a music nerd and lately I've been obsessing over Joni Mitchell - man, can that woman write and sing! I'm also into films, particularly into indie and auteur filmmakers (in fact, I sneaked a couple of american film quotes into this text; if you got them, I like you!). I like all arts in general, to be honest.

She is an argentinian writer that brilliantly combines social realism with gothic horror. If García Márquez, Cortázar and Borges wrote magical realism, what Enríquez writes is something like horrific, unsettling, supernatural realism. Like a more grounded Kelly Link or a modern Shirley Jackson that writes about marginal argentinians that don't know if they're having nightmares they can't wake up from or not.

Her writing is cool and has a distinctive voice. She's definitely one of the most interesting authors writing in spanish today. Her three most notable works, which I ardently recommend, are in the image I uploaded.

One of the most interesting aspects of her writing is that she consistently puts a spotlight on the female perspective in her stories. As an example, her brilliant short story collection Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego (Things We Lost in the Fire) features just one story written from a male's perspective. I honestly think that book is great and it will become a classic in the future.

In that collection, she offers her own take on the figure of the witch in the short story "Tela de araña" (Spiderweb). I feel like it's slightly more subtle than what we've seen so far but the elements are there. It's a brilliant story that lends itself very well to posthuman, feminist and postcolonial readings, in my opinion. I like it so much that I've uploaded it for you to read, in case you want to.
