The crow were nomadic hunters that traveled the great plains. They strongly resisted encroachment onto their lands. Also they were scouts for the U.S. in the Sioux wars.

Traditional Crow life revolved around the buffalo and the horse. Buffalo gave the Crow food, shelter, clothing and more. The horse provided convenient travel.

Plum bread is a recipe from the crow tribe. the ingredients are

1 1/2 cup cornmeal

2 cups all purpose flour

2 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 1/3 cup butter milk

3/4 cup molasses

1 cup plums chopped

1/4 cup butter (for cans)

Steps

sift dry ingredients

mix wet ingredients and add to dry

fold in plums

heavily butter coffee cans

fill cans 2/3 full with batter

put tin foil on top

put in water bath 2/3 up can

cover pan with foil

bake at 350* for 3 hours, make sure water does not dry up

Crow children raced each other and played tag. but the older kids played games similar to lacrosse.
