         <title>The Hippocampus is designed to
link information with previously identified knowledge or past experience. If it
succeeds and understands this information, it creates a relative memory, also known as a short-term memory. The information
will then be sent to and stored in the prefrontal cortex.</title>

         <title>

Memory:

The hippocampus is used for long
term memory, but not short term or procedural memory functions. In a normal
brain, there are two hippocampus, so that if one gets injured, normal memory
functions can continue. The hippocampus detects novel situations, stimuli,
events and places. It is necessary for making new memories. Alzheimer’s affects
the hippocampus first and most severely, because it affects the ability to make
new memories, meaning they don’t remember things that just happened, and they
live in the past. The hippocampus is affected by depression and schizophrenia,
both of which cause the hippocampus to shrink. It can be reversed with proper
treatment.
