The Slave trade compromise is one of the compromises accepted by representatives of 12 American states at a constitutional convention in Philadelphia in 1787. Slavery and the slave trade were among those issues on which the southern and northern states’ representatives had different perspectives. At that time, the slave trade and the importation of new slaves into America. Slave trade compromise was a forced measure for the northern states, which needed to preserve the political integrity and organizational capacity of the Union. In addition to it, the Constitution was also introduced with a slave clause requiring the northern states to deport runaway slaves back to the south. The slave trade compromise only forbade Congress to abolish slavery at the federal level. Eventually, in 1807, President Thomas Jefferson signed a law recognizing the importation of slaves from outside America’s borders as illegal. and the United States has embarked on a course towards the total abolition of slavery Thus, the plans of the southern slave owners to gradually legalize the slave trade have not been realized, and the United States has embarked on a course towards the total abolition of slavery.

The Slave Trade is a controversial issue of Commerce that first started at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia on May 25, 1787, to September 17, 1787. After the war, as enslaved labor was not a crucial element of the Northern economy, most Northern states passed legislation to abolish slavery. However, in the South, the invention of the cotton gin in 1793 made cotton a major industry and sharply increased the need for enslaved labor. Tension started between the North and the South as new states' slave or free status was debated.

At the Constitutional Convention in 1787, delegates fiercely debated the issue of slaves. They all agreed that the United States would maybe cease importation of slaves in 1808. An act of Congress passed in 1800 made it illegal for Americans to engage in the slave trade between nations, and gave U.S. authorities the right to seize slave ships that were caught transporting slaves and confiscating their cargo. Then the "Act Prohibiting the Importation of Slaves" took effect in 1808. However, a domestic or "coastwise" trade-in slaves persisted between ports within the United States, as demonstrated by slave manifests and court records.

The replacement for the importation of slaves from abroad was increased domestic production. Virginia and Maryland had little new agricultural development, and their need for slaves was mostly for replacements for decedents. Normal reproduction more than supplied these: Virginia and Maryland had surpluses of slaves. Their tobacco farms were worn out and the climate was not suitable for cotton or sugar cane. The surplus was even greater because (though they could not marry).
