Activity: Mixing our own colors!

Just like in the story we can also make new colors! We are going to do a fun activity.

I'm going to break you up into groups
Each group will get two colors of playdoh
Make sure all of your group members ask a question
After everyone in your group has asked a question about the outcome of mixing your colors, mix your play doh
After looking at your color leave a comment on if your question was answered

K.RC.2.RF: Answer questions about key details in a text.

Students should be able to ask questions pertaining to what we just read. They should also be able answer questions about the key details in a text we just read.

First we are going to watch and listen to the story Mixed: A Colorful Story as a class. After we listen to the story I will break up my kindergartners into small groups. Each get two different playdoh colors. Before getting to mix the colors together the students will have to pose a question to their group. Example: I wonder what color blue and yellow will make when we mix them together? or I wonder what colors we would have to mix to get purple? After each student has posed their question they will mix their two colors together. This process introduces the scientific method in a very simple method while meeting an ELA standard. After they do the activity I will have the students tell me if their question was answered during the activity. Finally, after the activity we will have a Q and A on the carpet to make sure they can ask and answer questions.
