In March 1964 a young woman Kitty Genovnese was stabbed and killed in Queens, New York. What was remarkable about the murder was that there were 38 witnesses who did nothing until it was too late.
The killer attacked Kitty at 3am on her way home from work. Kitty screamed and light went on in surrounding apartments, but no one did anything but call out. The police were called at 3:50am.
