Austin's Butterfly by Krista Damato

What can we learn from this video about how to critique a peer’s art?

What can we learn about growth mindset? (oh btw.. What is “growth mindset” anyway?)

What are some important things to remember when giving feedback?

When giving feedback, we need to remember to be specific, yet we should not be harsh on the critique as it may not be accepted in the way intended (to help improve the artwork). Although it is important to be honest and provide helpful insight, we should not sugarcoat as this would most probably be useless. Sugarcoating is not effective, and it is much better to provide honest feedback in order to help the artist develop. Accepting critique and advice would also help us develop a growth mindset. We should be open to constructive criticism and remember that we always can and should try again (when you are not proud or satisfied of your first or few tries). Having a growth mindset would mean that we should learn from our failures and we should not become demotivated when our work isn't perfect (in our eyes and the eyes of others). In the video, the children were pointing out some elements in which Austin could improve in a specific yet subtle approach, a way that is acceptable when criticizing.

The video accurately showed the proper way to critique your peers work, which is to give your honest opinions and advice and most importantly stay respectful and kind. The best way to critique someone's artwork is to comment on what they could improve and give suggestions. A growth mindset is a mindset in which you allow yourself to accept critique from peers and use it to help develop your work. The video showed Austin's drafts of his butterfly drawing, which is a good example of a growth mindset. He let his classmates make critiques and suggestions and Austin was able to improve his drawing by making more drafts and improved versions.

The video showed us several things about critiquing our peer's artwork. One of which, that most people know, is to not be mean, be nice, yet be honest. When giving your peer feedback/critique, you have to be specific about what they should fix, and not just say that it's wrong, but tell them the areas that they can improve on. In this video there are also ways that we can improve our art. It's to kindly take critique and not give up so easily, and make more drafts, just like Austin did in the video. This relates to a growth mindset, because having a growth mindset means that we can't give up easily and work hard to improve our work.

-A

He got advices that showed how his friends gave useful advice and a clear explanation. Many times when we ask of a feedback we don't get feedback that tells us specifically what to do. In this video the kids who gave Austin the feedbacks gave a very detailed one. This allowed Austin to improve his artwork. Without his friends feedbacks and his artwork might not have improved. I think that we need to be honest with our peers and tell them where we think might need improvements. This will be great help to the person receiving the feedback.

When doing work, there are always some areas where we can improve on. The first draft may not always turn out the way you want it to be, because of this, we can make our work better by creating several other drafts that include improvements. This video also taught us that when giving feedback, we should be honest but not in a mean way. You should also be specific and mention areas that need improvement. By listening to other people's critiques, we can all grow to be better artists/people.

They can make people's work better, by just telling a few things you think might be better. But when you critique a peer's work, you have to be detailed and not make it sound offensive. This can make you peers realize the things that can make their work better. The video told us by the critiques, austin had a growth mindset which led him to have several drafts that ended up with one beautiful work.

Even if he didn't get it right on his first attempt, his friends gave him constructive critiques which allows him to make more drafts in order to improve on his first drawing. This video have taught me to be specific when trying to give feedbacks on a peer's artwork. By being specific, it can lead our peer's to being able improve on them self. Austin had a growth mindset that kept him open to his peer's feedbacks. When giving feedbacks, I think that it is very important to be straightforward and specific because by being so the person that we are giving feedbacks to can understand clearly and be their best.

By watching the video, we can learn how giving critiques and feedbacks to our peer's could really help them improve their skills. When we give suggestions to our peers on how they can improve, we have to be straightforward and honest. This way, our peer's could easily learn where they went wrong, how to fix it and how to make it better. As seen in the video, Austin received many feedbacks on how he could make his butterfly look more realistic, he did not just do a first or second draft, but he did six drafts. This shows that we should not give up either. When we receive comments from our peer's, it does not mean our artwork is ugly, but they are saying this to help us improve. Therefore, we should not give up then and there. Instead, we should keep going and try our best again and again until we reach our goal. We also learnt that a growth mindset is very important because this way we can learn how to keep going and not giving up, we need to learn how to keep growing and how to keep improving. There is always room for more improvement.

Giving positive, detailed critiques and feedback of one's drawing can make use of it and make it better along the way. The video showed how a boy called Austin and how much progress he have made by using this growth mindset. His friends, who looked at his artwork, gave detailed explanations of how he could improve some parts of his drawing and what he could have done better. The video continued with the following drafts as he showed tremendous improvement. I believe after watching this video, we should not be afraid to critique your friend's work, because they would want to make their artwork better. We would too. First, they showed a bunch of little kids a picture of a butterfly and Austin's first attempt of drawing the butterfly. The children were asked to share their ideas on how they think Austin can improve his drawings. They made specific critiques, an example is one of them pointed out the shape of the wings should be like an arc instead of a line. Austin made drafts after drafts, it took him 6 drawings until he made the final piece. At the end, they were amazed by how Austin improved his drawings. This video tells us to have the same mindset as Austin. He did not give up, kept trying and he accepts specific critiques and that is how he managed to change and improve his drawings from time to time.

In the video, the teacher showed a picture of a butterfly and Austin's first draft to the kids, and those kids had so many specific idea to make the draft better. So at the end, Austin's Butterfly became very pretty. I think, for our art work we need to take care those very specific things. Also, we need to keep changing ,keep drawing different draft when the drawing is not good as we think. That also can be use in our daily life, to be more specific and keep going.

In this video about "Austin's Butterfly", a teacher was telling his class a story about a first-grader called Austin, who tried to create a drawing similar to a butterfly. However, in the start, his drawing needed lots of improvement, but after listening to many kind detailed and precise critiques from his classmates, who encouraged him to create more drafts, he could create an amazing artwork of the butterfly, integrating in the shape, size, patterns and colours of the original butterfly. This video taught us about giving honest but considerate feedback to our peers, and we have to be willing to accepting these opinions. It also taught us to have a growth mindset, that through perseverence, hard work and dedication, we can learn many new things, make progress, and even create our own masterpiece.

The main point of the video is to teach us how to express proper critiques to others. It teaches us to give critiques in a specific way so that the person who receives it knows what to change. The important thing when giving feedbacks is to know how the person who receives it will feel, you have to say it in a way that will motivate them to understand their mistakes and keep trying until they succeed.

The point of the video was that if we work hard and keep trying, we will soon achieve the goal that we tried to achieve. During the process we will need to receive feedbacks and criticism and use them as an helping tool.

The video tells us to never give up and their friends say that his drawing is not the same as the picture and he should try again until he got the closest one until the picture.

In this video, there is a teacher who is teaching students that helping other people can improve other people's work. I think that the message from the video tells us to never stop trying and other people's critiques can help other people's work.

In the video, there is a group of students that are critiquing a person's artwork. From this video, we can learn that to critique a peer's art, we have to be polite about it. We can also learn that we must be open to other people's critiques in order to get better, we have to have a growth mindset. As we are giving feedback, we must remember to be specific on the things that could be improved on. For example, instead of just saying "it's bad", we should explain more and specify which part could be improved on.

This video taught us that we can help people improve and give them critiques in a nice way and be specific about it so that they can be better. We have to give feedback in a nice way and think about how will they feel about it.
