More and more countries are opting to drop out of bidding for hosting the Olympics due to high expenses. However, some countries are willing to show off the innovation of their country on the world stage. The Olympics in PyeongChang is expecting to cost around 13 billion dollars, 6 billion over the original projection. Only two cities (Paris, Los Angeles) were still willing to host the 2024 and 2028 Olympics. Most cities gain a surplus, when good enough infrastructure is already in place such as 1984 LA. The coach of the Jamaican women's team, Sandra Kiriasis quits threatening to take the Jamaican sled with her. The coach was a former German Olympic gold medalist in 2006. The coach said she was forced out of her position from driving coach to track performance analyst. This would of allowed her to not interact with the athletes and given her legal responsibility of the sled. Luckily, the company Red Stripes offered a sled to the team for around 5,000 Euros. Right now the team is preparing for the event with the new sled, and this first time ever for Jamaica to have women athletes participating in the Winter Olympics. In a rare incidence, both German and Canadian bobsled teams finished in first tying with the time of 3:16.86 in the 2-man bobsled. However, this wasn't the first time the Canadians tied for gold in the Olympics, In 1998 the Canadians tied with the Italians. On the first day for women's bobsled, the U.S. sits in second behind the Germans with a .07 second difference. The most expensive games  on record came from the last Winter games in Sochi, Russia with a huge budget of 50 billion dollars. Most host cities have taken an unaffordable to fund the infrastructure  development. This has caused hosting cities to cut public spending to service their debt. Three of the members of the team are American born to Nigerian parents. Not only are they bobsledders but are runners as well and participated in the 2012 London Olympics. This will be the largest delegation of athletes from Africa participating in the Winter Games in history. There are two variations of the bobsled, the 2-man and the 4-man bobsled, each bobsled has a steel frame, a fiberglass hull, a movable set of front runners, set of rear runners, collapsible push-bars, and a metal brake. Each sled weighs around 384 pounds for two-man, and 463 pounds for four-man. Applying paint or lubricant to the runners is illegal as well as heating. They have went through two trials, both being solid runs but may fall short of winning a medal. Submitting a bid to the International Olympic Committee costs millions of dollars. A good example is Tokyo lost 150 million on its bid, and spent nearly 75 million on its 2020 bid. Hosting is more expensive than the bidding process, London spent 14.6 billion in 2012, nearly 4.4 billion dollars came from taxpayers. Most cities have to build new roads, enhance airports, create new housing for athletes, at create at least 40,000 available hotel rooms. Infrastructure can range from 5 billion to 50 billion dollars.
The only best option to host the games, is to already have existing infrastructure to support large waves of people. Francesco Friedrich not only has won a gold in the 2-man bobsled, but has piloted the 4-man team to win gold as well. The team did so well that it was ahead by .53 seconds of silver. But not only has Germany taken gold, but another German team tied for silver with South Korea. Not only was it historic for Germany, but South Korea has finally won a medal for the first in bobsled. Meanwhile Codie Bascue's U.S. team placed in 9th place with the other teams in 19th and 20th. Russian bobsledder Nadezhda Sergeeva was found positive in using banned substances in the Olympic games. Sergeeva admits that she was doping but she's not the only Russian athlete to be found, Krushelnitsky, a curler, was stripped of his bronze medal when caught. Because of doping in the 2014 Sochi games, the Russian team has been banned but few Russian athletes were allowed to participate but weren't allowed to fly the Russian flag. They were called the Olympic Athletes from Russia. Daughter of President Trump, Ivanka, visited PyeongChang, South Korea on Friday, and is representing the presidential delegation of the U.S. during the closing ceremony. She has supported the U.S. 4-man men's bobsled on Sunday. She has posed with U.S. Bobsled Silver medalist Lauren Gibbs in a picture, who allowed Ivanka to wear her silver medal. She has met with several American athletes as well as South Korea president Moon-Jae-in.

At the end of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, Norway will be on top with most, with 39 in total with 14 being gold, following is Germany with 31, Canada with 29, and U.S. with 23. Germany won the most medals in bobsled with 4 medals, 3 gold and 1 silver.  The United States won only 1 silver medal in the women's 2-man bobsled. In the 2014 Sochi Olympics the U.S. won 4 medals in bobsled.
