Julia - Grows in Part 2 as the main side character of the story. Julia is Winston's love interest and also wants to participate in rebellion.

a.       Winston constantly is checking for telescreens and spies throughout the book and trusts absolutely no one.
b.       It takes Winston a while to trust Julia due to his constant actions of keeping to himself and hiding his rebellious thoughts/actions.

3. A sense of identity gives power to the individual.
a.       Winston feels a sense of relief while writing in his journal as he is able to express himself like he is unable to do in public.
b. Winston feels relief when with Julia as he is able to rebel and enjoy himself which he isn't able to do very often while being watched.

We all have basic instincts that take over when we are in certain situations such as being scared. Orwell warns against communism and complete equality as it can dictate human nature such as his example of Newspeak that changes and restricts how we speak.
