In the podcast Ms.Chyna spoke about her personal experience with teacher burnout. She mentioned how she was working in the evenings, and how her teacher life was seeping into her personal life. This caused her to face burnout as the two parts of her lives were starting to merge. She also spoke of how on social media she would see a lot of negativity regarding public education, and lots of teachers spoke about wanting to quit. All of these things caused her to start feeling the burnout, which made her realize the importance of separating herself from the negativity and setting boundaries.

Implications for practice in special education

The insights mentioned can be applied to special education by finding the joy in little things. Ms.Chyna mentioned how sometimes students will have bad days, and even teachers will have bad days where they no longer want to see or work with their students. However, it's important to recognize that it was a BAD day. Learning to give second chances and finding the joy in the little things, such as a funny thing a student did or said, helps teachers. It is also important to know that every classroom is different. Understanding your students and their behavior will result in a different classroom environment, and it's important to know that just because your classroom may look different, does not mean that you are doing something wrong.

Although there weren't any specific strategies mentioned, one thing that stuck with me was the use of social media. There are teachers around the world with all different ideas and teaching strategies. With the use of social media, you can create a community amongst teachers. This creates the ability to share ideas and find new ideas to grow off of.

This podcast helped me view special education entirely differently. I've always pictured special education as teaching with accommodations. However, with this podcast I learned that yes, it may be about teaching and providing education, but a huge part of it is also about having social skills.

Since this was a podcast talking about teacher burnout there was only a brief moment where she spoke about her students in the classroom. it made me wonder more about what her day to day in the classroom looked like.

The difficulty of trying to do even the simplest of activities and the feeling of wanting to give up. I came to the realization of how everybody faces burnout, even teachers. It made me think to my future as well, about how to be a better teacher for my students but also for myself.
