         <description><![CDATA[<div>International mindedness to me, means understanding, knowledge and participating in a global community as a learner, but also a contributor. In order to achieve international mindedness individuals must be tolerant, accepting and respectful to both local and global perspectives.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>To me, this means to become a participant in not just local, but international culture.  This means not just individual foreign culture, but also globally and accepting of all culture, including varying belief systems. It is also important to contribute and find collective solutions to global issues such as global warming and resource sustainability. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>3. How do schools today prepare students for global citizenship within biology and other group 4 subjects?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>School’s prepare students to be creative in their investigations, whilst thinking critically and considering the bigger picture of their research.  It is also important to consider the implications on different cultures, whilst being respectful and open minded.  These skills are invaluable to become “global citizens”.<br><br></div><div>An example of a group 4 topics, regarding global citizenship, is to perform an ecological investigation taking into account biodiversity in a protected area, this can then be compared to investigations held in similar ecological environments and possibly contributing to global biodiversity statistics.  In order to build a complete picture, the students will have to be proactive and contribute their research to global communities. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>4.  What are the ways in which the texts, topics, or ideas in your classroom have benefited from contributions from other communities, cultures, and nationalities?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Global contributions in the scientific community is valuable to create a complete picture in scientific breakthroughs, but in the classroom, it is always vital to see the perspectives of different communities, cultures and nationalities.  Since innovative research is consistently evolving due to global efforts, it is always valuable for the knowledge in a classroom to be current.  <br><br></div><div>Cultural knowledge is a great motivator, and being able to introduce a global perspective to their local understanding, expanding on their traditional ideology will give them deeper understanding and appreciation of the scientific community.  An example was discussing ethics in varying countries, and how some countries have different perspectives on stem cell research.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>5.  How can you help your students understand the importance of international understanding as it relates to your course?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Science, is a sharing of information, where different communities have collaborated to create knowledge, which is beneficial to the global community.  In order to reinforce this statement, real life questions on global topics i.e. Genetic modification and API (Air pollution index). The students can then research different scientific documents, each giving their contribution to the scientific community.  Here individuals are able to share information with the international community thus developing their original knowledge.  This is the basis of the scientific community and the evolution of knowledge.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>6.  What activities have you carried out in your class that have knowingly or unknowingly highlighted or celebrated international mindedness?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the class, we have a multi- cultural classroom, where there are a diverse range of ethnicities.  These students at the end of the lesson are given time to converse about their local culture. They can then compare their knowledge to different cultures, and they can then discuss about a topic in a respectable manner as I have seen in a few of my lessons, such as cultural diets.  Students enjoy sharing their own cultural experiences, which in turn enriches their peers.  The students then reflect upon what they have learnt and see if they can implement other cultural practices into their own culture. <br><br></div>]]></description>
