Dance - Henri Matisse

In this painting there are five naked human figures dancing in a circle, while holding hands with one another. This painting seems very simple, mainly because of the colours. They are plain, and the background is made up by only two of them: blue on top and green at the bottom. Furthermore, the human figures are simply a shade of orange, which makes them stand out a lot from the dark tones of the background. This painting represents joy, even though the colours are quite gloomy. It looks like the people are having fun together not caring about the blue background, which in my opinion symbolises sadness. I like it for this reason, because of its positive meaning to just dance and have fun while not worrying about your problems.

The Starry night by Vincent Van Gogh

The Starry Night meaning is usually associated with Van Gogh's deteriorating mental health. The blues he used in this painting are a return to the colors he used previously during his struggles with mental illness.
There are various interpretations of Starry Night and one is that this canvas depicts hope. It seems that van Gogh was showing that even with a dark night such as this it is still possible to see light in the windows of the houses. Furthermore, with shining stars filling the sky, there is always light to guide you.
Carola Natalizio

Nicolò Malandugno: The persistence of memory- Salvador Dalì

The painting i chose to describe is the persistence of memory. It's one of Salvador Dalì's most known painting and it belongs to the Surrealism movement. It was made in 1931 with oil on canvas and it's now stored at The museum of modern art of New York. This painting makes me feel uneasy because it has many objects that are different from how we see them in real life. In the foreground we can see some strange clocks that look like they're melting, that's a way for Dalì to say that the perception of time is different in this reality. However, in the background there are even more scary and strange elements such as what seems to be an horse with a melted clock on it, but the landscape itself is not realistic and probably pure imagination. In conclusion, i think that with this painting Dalì wants to show how his memory and his mind see things in a way that is different from reality but at the same time he painted all the surrealist objects in a very realistic way, like this landscape could really exist!

Lorenzo Conte: The son of Man

The son of man is painting made by René Magritte in 1964, part of the surrealism movement.
Apparently this is a self-portrait of Magritte, with the man face obscured by a green apple.
This painting consists in a man wearing a black coat and a bowler hat, the man is standing in front of a small wall and in the background we can notice the sea and the sky covered by some clouds.

I really like this painting for two particular reason, first for how interesting it is, it really makes you wonder what is the meaning of the painting, I also love how well it is done.
The shades are perfect and so are the details like the left arm that appear to bend backward at the elbow.
Other details are: the apple being a "familiar object" (said by Magritte itself), or the bowler hat, that represents ordinary things that possess secret powers and challenge us to re-think the surrounding world as we know it.

Basically the meaning of this painting is to represent how the modern businessman have to hide their identity in order to conform, so the apple covering the man's face represent Magritte hiding is true self from the eyes of society.
The painting itself might seem kind of boring to somebody, probably because of its gloomy colors, but someone else it can be very interesting especially if you analise the details, the use of colors or the opinion of the artist itself.

Magritte said:

"At least it hides the face partly. Well, so you have the apparent face, the apple, hiding the visible but hidden, the face of the person. It's something that happens constantly. Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see. There is an interest in that which is hidden and which the visible does not show us. This interest can take the form of a quite intense feeling, a sort of conflict, one might say, between the visible that is hidden and the visible that is present."

There might be another reason to why the face is covered, in most of Magritte's painting the faces are obscured, many thinks that its because of a trauma he had. Magritte was 14 when his mother committed suicide by drowning. He witnessed her body being fished from the water, her wet nightgown wrapped around her face. This might be one of the reason why Magritte obscures faces.
But there are fonts that says, that its because it was difficult for him to draw Traditional portraits, also because he didn't like them.

To conclude:

I kind of relate to this painting, because sometimes I tend to change a little bit, depending on who's the person I'm with, and I really hate this trait of myself, because it often means that i can never be my true self.

SIMONE MY. VAN GOGH 'S STARRY NIGHT. In van Gogh's starry night we have many elements to analyze, in the foreground we can see a green tree which, however, is not very noticeable, in fact in the center of the painting we have its heart because there are many more things drawn, in fact we find houses all close together forming a village and behind them are the dark green cuddles. At the bottom of the painting we find the stars together with the clouds that look like waves and the Moon. All with a dark blue background color

Lorenzo Manieri. The Sower is a famous painting by Vincent Van Gogh. It depicts a man walking in a field while sowing seeds. In the background are rows of trees and a bright blue sky. Using bright colors and thick brush strokes, the sunflowers in the middle of the field stand out against the bright green of the grass. Even the man's clothes are depicted in bright colors. At the heart of the painting, there is a sense of depth as the man walking towards the viewer is highlighted by the lighter colors of the field and the darker treesIn conclusion, The Sower is a masterpiece with beautiful use of color and technique. Capture the beauty of nature and the importance of hard work in the agricultural world.

Eva Castelluzzo. Anxiety, munch. Is a painting created by Edvard munch. This painting makes me feel moody, i think it’s menaing is a little dark, the title speaks. It makes me feel also sentimental, anxiety is a feeling. Not everyone can control it, i think that this feeling is one of the deadliest and the worst. In this painting you’ll see a que of people whose face is scary and it seems like they’re watching you. Someone hasnt got the face. In the foreground i can see a girl, i guess, whose face is sad and scary at the same moment. In the background i can see a sunset, i think. The colors of this paintings are warm and a little dark, there’s yellow, orange, blue, purple, red and a little green. I like this type of paintings because they have hide meanings.

The image shocks the viewer by removing the eye from its usual context, presenting it without the face to which it belongs. It further disrupts expectations by inserting a circular sky within the otherwise ordinary eye. Sometimes called magical realism, such juxtaposition of normally unrelated objects within a seemingly incongruous context is characteristic of much of Magritte's work. For Magritte and the similarly working Surrealists, these startling, even bizarre combinations were considered the product of their own unconscious minds. By viewing them, the artists believed, they might also touch the unconscious minds of their viewers.
