Week 5 ( Ihsan and eschatology)

Ihsan is the third level of religion after Islam (submission through worship and practice) and Iman (belief in the pillars of faith). It comes from the famous Hadith Jibril.

🔹 Meaning of Ihsan:

Ihsan means excellence or perfection in worship and actions. The Prophet ﷺ explained it as:

“To worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, know that He sees you.”

🔹 In simple words:

When you pray, you pray with full focus and sincerity, like you are standing in front of Allah.

When you do good deeds, you do them purely for Allah, not to show off.

Even in daily life (studying, working, speaking), you behave with honesty, kindness, and excellence because you know Allah is always watching.

🔹 Examples of Ihsan:

Praying with full concentration 🕌

Being kind to parents and others 🤲

Doing your school/work tasks with sincerity and quality 📝

Helping others without expecting reward ❤️

So, Ihsan is about doing everything in the best way, with the awareness that Allah sees you at all times.

🔹 Meaning of Eschatology:

Eschatology is the study of the end of times and what happens after death. In Islam, it refers to the belief in the Hereafter (Akhirah), which is one of the Pillars of Iman (faith).

🔹 Key Beliefs in Islamic Eschatology:

Life after death – When a person dies, the soul leaves the body and enters the barzakh (the life of the grave).

Resurrection (Al-Ba‘th) – On the Day of Judgment, all people will be resurrected by Allah.

Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyamah) – Everyone will be judged for their deeds; nothing will be hidden.

Scale of deeds (Mizan) – Good and bad deeds will be weighed.

Sirat (the bridge) – A bridge over Hell that everyone must cross; the righteous will pass quickly, while the sinners may fall.

Paradise (Jannah) and Hell (Jahannam) – Eternal reward or punishment, depending on faith and deeds.

🔹 Why it is important:

It reminds Muslims to live responsibly and avoid sins.

It gives hope that patience and good deeds will be rewarded.

It strengthens faith in Allah’s justice and mercy.

👉 In short: Eschatology in Islam is the belief in life after death, resurrection, judgment, and the eternal life in Paradise or hell

What i’ve learned in Usrah 1

Usrah 1 made me realise something about myself that I had never really thought about before. I realised that although I am a Muslim, I did not truly understand my own religion. I practised Islam every day, but I rarely questioned its meaning or purpose.

There were times when people asked me simple questions, like how many pillars of faith there are. I could answer them easily. But when they asked me to explain further, I found myself unable to do so. This made me reflect and ask myself an honest question: if a non-Muslim asked me about Islam, would I actually know how to explain it?

I felt disappointed in myself because I have been a Muslim for almost my whole life, yet I realised that I did not really know my own religion as well as I thought I did. Usrah 1 became a wake-up call for me. It taught me that practising Islam is not just about routine, but about understanding and meaning.

Now, I am grateful for this experience because it pushed me to start learning Islam properly and sincerely. It made me realise that there is still so much for me to learn, and that this journey of understanding my faith has only just begun.

What I’ve learned in Usrah 2

Throughout my journey in Usrah 2, I realised that there were many things I had overlooked. I became aware that although I am a Muslim, I was not fully practising my faith the way I should.

I learned that Islam has so much to teach us, and that most of Allah’s commands are meant for our own good. Every command has a reason behind it, and every act of worship brings benefits to us.

For example, prayer helps improve our focus and self-discipline, which can be applied in our daily lives. This is especially meaningful for me as a student.

I also realised that in order to improve ourselves, we must start with the first step: correcting our intentions. A sincere intention is the foundation for real change.

Another important lesson I learned is the importance of improving our prayer. My ustaz once told me that if we want to become better in any aspect of life, we must start by fixing our prayer. I did not understand it back then, but now, I truly do.

I also realised that consistency is hard to achieve. But Allah sees every effort we make, and what truly matters is our struggle to get closer to Him, even if we fall many times. Like someone once told me: “quality over quantity.” It reminded me that it is better to put real effort into small but sincere acts than to rush through many without meaning.
