When Words Lit Up the Screen

When my Mom was in school, the main technology she used and helped he the most was computers. They were just starting to be more introduced to schools and everywhere, and many were the ones with floppy disks. My mom enjoyed the computer the most because she said "they got to make boxes and type programs" that felt exciting to see her words on a screen. This was very exciting cause it was one of the first time students could interact with tech in school. My mom also didn't like her handwriting, so typing was very fun for her. This then can connect to what we learned in class by how technology changes learning. This is huge in the tech timeline cause going from paper to digital learning.

From Whiteboards,to Smartboards, to Labs, to Personal Laptops

The technology that was used the most when my cousin was in school was the Smartboards. It became her school's main teaching tool. She loved them because it was an easier way to read the teachers handwriting and could see everything better. Then they would have technology classes where they used computers which she loved and helped her a lot. They would work on typing practice, research or use different programs. Then in high school that's when they started giving laptops to every student and started using Google classroom, to submit in all of their work. Which helped her a lot, but was also confusing. So how can I connect this to what we learned in class. Is by how fast tech can involve through elementary to high school. How much it can help them for the future and also shows how important it is to teach about it.

The technology that my sister used the most in school was laptops. Every classroom had a kart that would be shared through each class and was the main thing teachers used, such as typing games, math games, etc for learning. This was also her favorite thing in school, but then COVID-19 hit us and just everything went online. It was confusing for her cause she was just getting a lot of new information that she didn't know. Then using a lot of new apps she never used or was never taught. She always had tech in class from elementary into high school, but this was just a huge change for her. Therefore how I can relate this to

The progression from my mom's floppy disks to my cousin's laptops and Smart Boards, and to my sister going to in person to almost everything online, really isn't just about the technology itself. It's a reflection of how each generation's world and way of thinking have been shaped. I'm struck by how my mom's learning was grounded in physical media, my cousin's was a blend of physical and digital, and my sister's is almost entirely virtual. This evolution makes me realize that the tools we use don't just help us learn, but there are also our expectations, our collaboration, and our very definition of what a classroom is.
