Hi. This is my feedback for this lesson plan.
1. The learning objectives are little bit too ambitious considering it is for Form 1 and worse, intermediate level. Especially for Learning Objective 3 which requires students to provide reasons.
2. Can do more for moral values - rather than just 'love to animals'
3. Brainstorming is not really a thinking skill - perhaps can go with evaluating information
4. Practice stage - instead of listing 3 ways orally, it is better if teacher can provide a worksheet so that students can write down the answers. Even though it is a speaking activity - but still for assessment purposes, teacher can review students' answer later.
5. I don't really see this as a speaking activity.

1. I think it is better if teacher focuses only one skill - either choose skimming and scanning or identifying main ideas and supporting details.
2.There is no relation between learning objectives 2 with the learning outcomes? The first LO is okay because it is for scanning purpose. Maybe can change the verb for 'rewrite'?
3. LO 2 is too ambitious for Form 1 Intermediate students? They have to write the main ideas first then supporting details? Will they be able to finish it in 10 minutes?
4. When teacher gives the article to students, will she checks whether students understand what the article is all about?
5. The article is too difficult to understand for Form 1 students.
6. The task sheet is not interesting. Teacher perhaps can show some examples on how can they write the main ideas and supporting details.
7. There is no weighting for questions in Task Sheet (comprehension questions).
8. I don't think the title of the article is suitable.
9. Formative assessment is not related at all with the learning objectives?
10. Thinking skill is not specific at all.

1. The thinking skill stated is too broad and general. ‘Identifying’ can be interpreted in many ways. The teacher should state a more specific thinking skill.2. The word ‘rewrite’ in the second learning objective is not suitable to be used. It should be replaced with ‘identify’. The skill involved is reading skill, so the students are required to identify the main ideas and supporting details by using skimming and scanning.3. The third objective is not really clear. The sentence should be rephrased. For example; Students are able to answer 5 out of 8 comprehension questions using the information from the article correctly.4. The formative assessment is not coherent with the learning objectives stated. It should be focusing on whether the students are able to skim and scan the main ideas and supporting details.5. The main idea map provided is good. It helps the students to see clearly the difference between main idea and supporting details.

1. The thinking skill stated is too broad and it does not coherent with the learning objectives. The teacher should state a more specific thinking skill.2. In practice stage, the teacher stated “Students are divided into groups of four”. The word ‘divided’ is not appropriate to be used. The teacher should replace it “Students are assigned into groups of four”.3. Most of the activities done are more prone to writing skill and not speaking skill.4. The task sheet is interesting but I think it is a bit too hard for Form 1 students with intermediate level to complete the dialogue. However, since they are working in groups, maybe it will help them better.

Wan Ainaa Mardhiah bt Wan Ahmad Fuad (D20151070661)

Analysis on the strengths, limitations and suggestions to improve the lesson plans.

Analysis (Lesson Plan 1 by Nurdiyana)

Strengths

There are a few strengths that can be identified in this lesson plan. The first strength is this lesson plan has two interesting Learning Objective 1 and 2. Both learning objectives are detail and clear and the verbs used are correct.

Learning Objective 1: identify 5 out of 8 verbs in simple present tense from the article.

Learning Objective 2: rewrite 3 out 5 main ideas following by supporting details from the article into a graphic organizer provided by teacher

Other than that, in the lesson plan, there is allocation of time for students to do their tasks. For example, in Production stage, teaching and learning description number 2 and 5, and also in the Extended activity.

Production stage:

2. Students need to complete task sheet in 7 minutes.

5. Students need to complete this activity in 10 minutes.

Extended activity:

1. Teacher provides 10 verbs from the article to the students.

2. Students need to write a sentence based on the verbs.

3. Teacher gives one week to complete it.

Weaknesses

There are certain weaknesses to. For example, Learning Objective 3 “select suitable information from the article to answer 8 comprehension questions, students have to answer 5 out of 8 question correctly”. Next, another weakness is Teaching and Learning Activity description, in Presentation stage number 2 “teacher picks 3 answers which students answer in set induction form to present simple past tense”. Lastly, in the closure stage, there are no activity whereby teacher able to evaluate the students’ understanding.

Improvements

In making a lesson plan, it has to be ensured that the sentences used are precise and direct to the point. The instructions given to the students must be direct and do able. Teacher also has to make sure that each stage in the lesson structure plays its different roles from time to time.

Analysis (Lesson Plan 2 by Lye An Jie)

Strength

There are a few strength in this lesson plan. The first is, it has a good Learning Objective, precisely, number 3, “justify three importance of saving endangered animals by using three modals and providing reasons in a role-play. Meaning, the role-play will be done with its own purpose, since it is a continuation it will not be a burden to the students. It also as short and interesting activity description in the Set Induction stage. Teacher shows a poster and let the students to give the feedbacks. By doing so the teacher is able to grab the students’ attention even from the very beginning of the lesson. Next, in the Production stage, when the performing students are doing the role play, the teacher will discuss the modals used with the non-performing students. This will prevent wasting of time during the lesson. Teacher has good time management skill. Apart from that, the Closure stage also has interesting activity, whereby the teacher will show a video to capture the whole essence of the lesson. One of the materials is interesting too. For example, like the Script Task Sheet, it is student-friendly as it is nice and easy to understand.

Weaknesses

In my opinion, the topic is not suitable “I Want My Right Too”. My first impression is the lesson is about claiming individual citizen right or anything that was similar. The topic is too big and rather deviated than what is intended. Learning Objective 1 is too easy to be put in the Learning Objective. Apart from that, the Extended Activity is rather easy, it should be more than what it is written. Teacher should be given task where students can gain input from it for the Extended Activity. Regarding the materials used, the poster is not suitable to be used because it has too much words.

Improvements

Teacher has to ensure that they choose the right and suitable topic to be used in a lesson because it will give impact and first impression to the students. Next, teacher has to make sure that anything to be put under Learning Objective is something that is evaluative and significant in the lesson. Next, teacher has to make sure that activity conducted or wanting the students to do them must be suitable to their learning objective and topic as a whole. Last but not least, the materials used must be interactive and interesting so that the dynamic from the teaching and learning activity in class can be maintained.

D20142068670
In lesson plan 1, the activity in this lesson plan is quite hard for form 1 students because the activity provided is asked students to read the article and answer the question, find the main idea and supporting detail is hard for students to understand the text and answer question, but the teacher can use the games to teach students example present simple tense game, the teacher can prepare game or worksheet that can make students feel enjoy and happy when leaning, students learn better when they are engaged in activity or game. The use of game can make a useful lesson like lesson plan A. The weakness of this lesson is the same with the lesson plan A, whereby the teacher use only 3 minute in the set induction but any activity such as ask question and discuss the topic have to done in this section, In my view I think teacher should use five minutes in the set induction part because we should explain to students what they will learn clearly. To improve this lesson teacher can prepare the useful game and activity that can attract students interested in learning, students learn better when they are in relax atmosphere, as a game can make students feel fresh and relax in learning. And use time properly to make lesson plan effectively.

D20142068670
Lesson plan 2, the strength of this lesson is the teacher use a lot of activity and game to attract student’s attention to the lesson, students are happy and enjoy when learning, the game and activity that teacher use in this classroom is word search and role play, those games are very good for students to improve their English language. As we all know that the students love to learning with the game than to listen only teacher explanation, so when the teacher uses the game in the class students feel relax and do better in learning. One more strength in this lesson is teacher use the picture to explain the modal in the presentation part. Is a good learning strategy because when the teacher uses the picture students pay attention more than leaning in a traditional way. This way is very interesting for students and easy to understand. The weakness in this lesson is the limitation of time, for the set induction part teacher used only three minutes, in my opinion, I think is not enough for the activity that teacher has to do in that time example asking question and ask students to guess what they will learn, three minutes will not compose all the activity that teacher prepare. The suggestion for this problem is the teacher have to use five minutes in the set induction part to making the lesson appropriate with the time and all activities are done. And one more thing for all teacher have to concern of some school do not have the electronic teaching aid such as projector, speaker or anything that connect to the computer, that teacher has to use to show the powerpoint or video, the suggestion for teacher always has plan B for the lesson, example by preparing the Mahjong paper or the game in the worksheet, that when teacher cannot use the computer, she can refer to the activity in paper.

For set induction the time allocation is not enough maybe can be 5 minutes but opening is good. in set induction there are some grammatical errors. The selected article is a bit difficult for form 1 students. In presentation stage the statement 2 is not clear, there are some grammatical errors. For production stage the task sheet is not attractive enough since that is for form 1 students. For production stage to answer the questions appendix 5, 7 minutes is not enough for them, it can be 10 minutes. For extended activity can be another type of activity because that is i think more suitable for practice stage.

AOC ORANGE

There are several weaknesses in this speaking lesson plan. First of all, the learning outcome is not related to the activity conducted. Overall, the lesson plan is focusing on teaching grammar aspects but not speaking skill. Besides, brainstorming is not a thinking skill.

In set induction, it is not appropriate to ask students “what is this poster about?” Students may not know how to answer the question. Instead, teacher can change her questions to “What you can see from the picture?”, “how many sentences in the pictures?”

There is no input of speaking in presentation stage. Instead of giving the word search, teacher can teach students about how to create the sentences using modals in different situation. This will help them to get ready to speak in practice stage.

In practice stage, I think there is too hard for Form 1 intermediate students to fill in the dialogue without any option. My suggestion is teacher need to provide a list of key words on the worksheet. This will guide students to fill in the dialogue.

I think the video in closure is more suitable to set induction. Teacher should recap the information that students have learned in the lesson by asking questions or share a pictures or quotes that related to the lesson.

Formative assessment is not stated clear. Teacher should state the aspects of assessing students’ performance in role play. For example, the pronunciation, the gestures or the word choice used in role play.

The strength of this lesson plan is the task sheets are well-designed. Students will love the task sheets and be motivated when they are doing the task sheets. Besides, preparing a script for students to role play is a good idea. Students will know how they are going to speak. However, a few options of words need to be provided in the task sheet for students to fill in the dialogue.

The limitation of the lesson plan is there is no degree like accurately and correctly in first and second learning objectives. Besides, identify is not a thinking skill. There should be identifying main ideas and supporting details.

In set induction, the picture is not attractive. This will not grab the attention from students. In set induction, it is not appropriate to ask students “what do you think about the picture?” Students may not know how to answer the question. Instead, teacher needs to ask more specific questions to lead students, so students will get some brief ideas about what they are going to learn in the lesson.

In production stage, I think that 7 minutes is not enough for students to finish five reading comprehension subjective questions. Instead of summary writing, teacher may extend the time for students to complete the questions. Besides, summary writing is not an interesting activity. Teacher may change the summary writing to designing a simple poster that consists of the main ideas from the article. This will be more meaningful activity in production stage.

In closure, I think if teacher only give students stickers and ask them show the stickers will not make a meaningful closure. As a suggestion, teacher can give students some questions for them to recap the input that gain in the classroom or showing them some quotes that related to the importance of preserving the environment.
Besides, the input in presentation stage is not appropriate to learning objective. The learning objective of the lesson is identifying main ideas and supporting details of the reading text. Lack of speaking activity

As this is for a speaking activity, I don’t see it as so. This is because according to lesson plan, the script is given to the students for the roleplay. With scripts given, students will tend to just read it instead and that won’t be a speaking activity since speaking skills require the students to answer spontaneously with their own thought and ideas. If script is needed, the students need to come up with it with some guidance from the teacher. However, the ideas shall be from the students.

2.

Nur Sakinah Binti Jumadi
D20151070630

There are several weaknesses that I have found in this lesson plan including the presentation of the lesson plan and the content of the lesson plan.

Firstly, there are a few of weaknesses that I noticed from the lesson plan in terms of its presentation. There are so many grammar mistakes including incorrect use of vocabularies. Consequently, it makes it so hard for me to comprehend the gist of certain sentences which lead to confusions. Then, the table of the learning activity has no border which makes it looked like as if the contents in it are continuous. The purpose of borders are simply to separate the stages of the lesson to make it easier for people to read and distinguish which stage is which. The lesson plan could be improvised by the teacher by checking and correcting the grammar mistakes and vocabularies, and by being a little bit meticulous with the details such as borders of table.

Other than that, I also noticed some of the limitations in the lesson plan. The flow of the lesson is not clear as there was no continuity between stages. It is so confusing even to a normal person, what more our students. The students would be so confuse as to think of what actually that they are supposed to learn. By saying this, the lesson has no focus. According to the learning outcome provided, the focus of the lesson plan is on skimming and scanning for specific information and ideas. However, the activities are mostly focusing on how to identify verbs in an article. Referring to the presentation stage, there is no input on skimming and scanning as the teacher explained on simple present tense, verbs and how to identify them. This is not a good presentation stage as the teacher should be giving input on skimming and scanning skills. Accordingly, the formative assessment is not parallel to the learning objectives set by the teacher. The objectives were to enable students to identify main ideas and not to understand the functions of simple present tense by reading an article. The lesson could be an effective lesson if the teacher could set a focus on the lesson – skimming and scanning or verbs – and to provide the right input accordingly to the focus of the lesson.

Next, in the set induction stage, the teacher asked questions that are too broad. The teacher did not specify on what the students should focus on the picture. Broad questions will not help our students to think critically. Moreover, one of the materials is not parallel to the learning objective Number Three set by the teacher. According to the learning objective Number Three, students have to answer five out of eight comprehension questions, however, there were only five questions in the task sheet. By saying this, referring to the learning outcome, the target skills are skimming and scanning for specific information and ideas. But, suddenly in the production stage, the teacher asked the students to write a summary based on the article given in the practice stage. One reason for the conflict here could be because the lesson has no focus. The confusion could be avoided if the teacher set a focus on the lesson and to always check the credibility of the task sheet provided.

That’s all from me, thank you!

Strength : The activities for each stage are suitable for the intermediate level and it is vary. The role play is being assisted by the teacher which is good as the student will not have difficulty in performing the role play. The learning objectives was describe in details.Limitations: Asking justification from intermediate students somehow will be hard for the students.

Assalamualaikum. In my opinion, this lesson plan consists of too many in class tasks which I think may bore the students. I think the students' attention gap is not long and having too much activities that involve writing and reading can discourage them to participate or finish the task. After reading an article, they were asked to extract points to be put in graphic organisers, then they have to answer questions and then they still have to write summary. Maybe the teacher can change the activity to be more fun instead of using only papers. The teacher can do a class discussion, for instance. Or instead of writing a summary, the students can be asked to create a poster which can be more fun and exciting to the students.

The activities are well explained too and suitable for the students. The learning objectives are clearly stated as well. However, the closure and the extended activity should have focused more on the language aspect taught instead of focusing on the topic. The teacher should have asked about the modals instead of wrapping up the class with video on endangered animals. Same goes to the extended activity assigned to the students. It is better if the teacher can assign the students with task on modals to reinforce their understanding after they leave the class. Thank you.

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone.
In my opinion, the lesson plan above has too many activities. It is good that the teacher knows and plan everything thoroughly but the activities seem quite a lot for 80 minutes lesson. First of all, the reading skills that teacher wants to teach her students are quite a lot. The teacher can choose one or two skills to teach in one lesson. Furthermore, the learning outcomes and learning objectives do not have relation at all. Also, for formative assessment, in my opinion it would be better if teacher focuses on what she wants to test students in class which is about reading skills. Other than that, thinking skill stated is too wide. Perhaps the teacher can choose a skill that is more specific. My suggestion for this lesson plan are, firstly, teacher can choose one reading skill that she wants students to master first. Then, for learning objectives, teacher can include reading skills in it. For example, students should be able to identify 3 our of 5 main ideas in the passage. Meanwhile for materials, maybe the teacher can add more colours or images so that it would not look too dull.

Thank you.

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone.
In my opinion, it is good to have many activities for the students in the classroom. However, the lesson plan shown has too many activities and I personally think that the students might be having problems in focusing in each activity. The thinking skill provided is also not specifically stated. Instead, the thinking skill should be changed to identifying the main ideas and supporting details. As fro the learning objectives, the teacher should include in one of the learning objectives about reading skills because the skill the teacher is teaching is reading skill. Last but not least is the task sheet given in Appendix 5. I think, the teacher should include one HOTS question in the task sheet so that the students could think critically
