The evolution of technology

Students may work in groups, if it is a large group, and choose a digital technology (per group) to do research on and make predictions about the future of it. They are going to display their results on an exhibition. Students must bring visual aids, and, if possible, examples of the technological devices they may talk about.

Tips:

Encourage students to think critically about the use of artificial intelligences and to find parallels with the technologies they will talk about.
Promote the use of a technology, of the group's choice, to register the exhibition.
Tell the group to invite a friend to the exhibition.

Young groups: CNA's got talent
Students display their talents, in the school's theater, the rest of the group records the presentaions and edit tik tok videos.

Tips:

use a #hashtag;
suggest students invite friends to participate;
videos are played on the tv at the school's hall.

Adults: Food around the world
Students put up a fair in which they will talk about food and culture around the globe.
Sts may choose to register the event either recording tik tok videos or building a collaborative mural with pictures.

Tips:

suggest students invite friends to participate;
the mural could be a physical or digital one, such as padlet murals.

BASIC 2

Young groups: Cooking and serving food at a restaurant/ fast food place
Students previously create a fast food menu and assign who is bringing each item.
At the day of the project, students set the tables on 2nd floor as restaurant tables, and use the menu to order and server the food, taking turns as client and waiter.

Tips:

Dress students for the occasion! Waiters should be provided with trays and notepads, and also wear a stylish black bow tie;
if available, use tabeclothes on the tables of 2nd floor.

Adults: At a pub
Students previously create a bar menu and assign who is bringing each item.
In a more informal set, students take turns as clients and bartenders, and should order from the counter and tables. Bartenders mix drinks as clients order, accordingly to the menu.

In both projects, it may be suggested students bring a friend.

INTERMEDIATE 2

Students may work in groups,organize and facilitate a workshop.
Young groups: Lifestyles
Sts may talk about different lifestyles and bring tips to give to de audience. Each group is going to be assigned differnt aspects of life (personal life, professional life, academic life, and so on, for instance ).

Adults: Job interviews
Sts do some research and bring up tips on how to do well in a job interview. Assign different tasks to the groups, such as: what to wear, how to behave, questions to ask, how to organize the résumé, etc.

Students must be encouraged to bring friends to attend their workshop, as for other groups at shchool should be invited to attend as well.

PRE-ADVANCED 1

Exchange programs fair

Sts work in groups and search about real life exchange programs. Each group must choose one type of program to learn about. After, Sts put up a fair, with visual aids, flyers, and gives the audience (it is a public event) information on exchange programs.

Tips:
Tell students to send printables to be printed at the school beforehand.

Cultural fair: Pop art

Students work in groups and each group chooses, at the beginning of the semester, a pop culture item, which they will look up throughout the semester, to, finally, put up a cultural fair and organize stands to talk about their items.

Tips:

It should be made clear this is both a collaborative and a cooperative project, so all students in the groups must be working actively in collecting materials for their stands during the semester, and should also be involved on the demonstration, at the day of the fair.
Students should invite friends to the fair, and also other groups of the school.

Unit 1 -Family matters (rewrite the pilot episode of modern family)

Vegan recipes (Food Movement)

The purpose is that students search for vegan recipes that are going to be made during the presentation day.

Tips:

Recipes should be simple, such as sandwiches, salads etc.
Teacher should search for some recipes to suggest to students in case they don't know what to do.
It's important to guide students to use proper vocabulary and functions when preparing the recipe (imperatives, conjunctions, name of ingredients etc).

Fake news (hoax)

Unit 5 presents some hoaxes, students are either to take the examples in the book or to bring other hoaxes/fake news to exploit.

Tips:

Students should be encouraged to use vocabulary and functions worked in unit 2 (from pg 40 to 43).

Past fads fair

Based on the topic of unit 5, teacher and students should discuss about what was popular in the past and try to bring these objects on the due date. The project works like a fair where students are responsible for the exhibition stands and explain what the objects are to visitors.

Tips:

Encourage young students to talk to their parents about the topic in order to enrich the project and bring more object to expose.

Civil Rights

Based on unit 2, the project is going to be about the importance of Civil Rights. Students must research key moments in human History which were crucial for Civil Rights understanding.

Tips:

There are some useful functions and vocabulary on pg 27.
Encourage use of conjunctions (pg 33).

Around the world

Unit 3 brings the topic of countries and nationalities. Students could explore it by having a game show, trivia or competition involving cultural aspects of different nationalities: curiosities, dressing code, cousine, language, touristic spots, etc

Tip:

The pie face game could fit really well and it may involve other teens groups

Teacher could have a cooking class for a typical dish of a specific country or students may bring dishes representing different cultures/nationalities and have a party for the break

Organizing a party

In unit 3 students learn future with going to for plans and at the end of the unit they learn to organize a party and set up tasks for each participant. This could be performed as a real situation. Students would make a list of things needed and they should set what each student is going to do/bring for the party. Remember to use a theme for the party so they can arrange decoration as well. Use digital murals to organize and keep track of the organization.

Garage Sale

In unit 6 students learn about garage sales. This activity could involve a real garage sale with donations for children's day and could be extended for the whole course.

Another option would be asking students to bring things they don't use at home and simulate a garage sale in the hall or auditorium with the class

Cooking Time

Unit 7 is all about food. You can have a real burger place simulation in which students would bring food to buy, sell and to be served during the role play. This could take place in the hall.

In unit 7 students learn ingredients and recipe to cook pasta. You can use it as an opportunity to have a real cooking class with either pasta or pizza, which involves basically the same ingredients and procedure

Routine

Students can be encouraged to record or create animated videos describing their routine or someone else's habits by either using real pictures and videos or animated ones.

Students may create a fashion show in which there would be the cat walk moment with presenters and models and also the post moment in which they would role play at a store diologue to sell what was released in the catwalk

Students should engage for the graduation ceremony and party at the end of the semester.
