  • On June 25th, 1950, A massive artillery attack from North Korea signals the start of the war. This is important because it's the start of the war and you see who started it. 
  • On June 27th, 1950, the US authorizes UN countries to apply assistance to south Korea with stuff like supplies. The soviets try to boycott these proceedings. This is significant because this shows who the two sides are gonna be, the US and the Soviets. 
  • On July 10th, 1951, peace negotiations start but fail. Two years later they began more peace talks that worked in the village of Panmunjom. 
  • In the summer of 1952, Korea becomes campaign issue in 1952 presidential election. Eisenhower pledges to go to Korea to end the war..
  • In March 1953, Armistice formally re-established the division of Korea. Formal peace treaty never signed. Over 1,000,000 Koreans and 54,000 Americans killed in conflict plus thousands who die as prisoners of war.

The two major effects are still split up and there is no one clear ruler they ruined their industry putting them back beyond the world a lot till this point. First, in the Korean war, they don't officially declare war on each other but they still fight each other they just take sides and fought. Next, they also do it in the Vietnam war by trying to take it over but the soviet union helps protect it. They also do little things by trying to be the first to do something in the space race or the arms race there just trying to compete and be better than each other. This connects to the present day because Russia is invading Ukraine and the US is giving sanctions instead of directly fighting them which would not be a proxy war but giving sanctions is.
