Nature has always had more force than education. Voltaire

I think that this quote is a great representation of education and realism. There was a strong connection between students having a connection with observing the world around them in a modern realism educational setting. This type of teaching emphasized demonstrations, field trips, and I think that we have separated this type of teaching recently. I think that we need to get back to this mode so that our students enjoy school and experience more within their learning.

In all things nature there is something of the marvelous. Aristotle

The modern realism teacher educates through field trips and the sense of touch, sight, and hearing. When we explore in nature we are able to look around at different elements, we are able to hear various animals, and we can touch different textures. Being able to explore, observe, and examine the world allows us to learn in a different mode.

Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well. Voltaire

I felt that this quote related to realism because in this philosophy nature and the world is appreciated. If we are learning through realism we are learning through appreciating, examining, and observing the world around us. We are able to use the sense of touch and sight to examine our surroundings and learn as much as we can about the world we live in.

If I am asked 'what is good?' my answer is that good is good, and that is the end of the matter. G.E. Moore

I selected this quote because in realism people state their observations as facts. The quote is stating that good is good and there is no alternate explanation. The philosophy of realism is that what is said is what is meant to be said.

To live well is to work well, to show a good activity. Thomas Aquinas

I selected this quote because a realist wants to have a safe and practical world. The quote states that to live well is to work well, so to me that is a safe and practical world. Realists live in a realistic world and this quote is a very simple explanation of what the world should be.

Science is the knowledge of consequences, and dependence of one fact upon another. Thomas Hobbes

I chose this quote because realism is based in real ideas and facts, and it relates to science. Realists are the type of people who are rational and learn through facts, observations, and examinations. I would say that when you are learning science you are conducting observations and examinations, as well as using your various senses.

To achieve you need thought. You have to know what you are doing and that's power. Ayn Rand

This quote represents realism because this philosophy emphasizes the idea of matter being reality. This quote is representing that you have to be grounded in what you are doing and that is giving you the ultimate power. A realist gains their power by being realistic in their ideas and dealing with facts.

This quote represents the philosophy because in realism students learn through visual representations. This quote is saying that we think through pictures and so it relates to learning through visual aids. We are constantly thinking with visual representations and I think that many of us also benefit through learning with visual aids.
