I respect the integrity Silverchair showed by retaining their accents and remaining true to their roots. 
It makes me hopeful for future Australian music; if we don't have to change our identities to succeed, we may yet create a music industry that reflects our unique experiences and viewpoints. - 85% of music bought in Australia is from overseas artists.
- Australian music bought within this country is only 2% of world music sales.
This presents a problem for everyone in this industry; our music is not being heard! 
To bring more Australian music into the world, we must break into overseas markets, but often to do that, artists must Americanise and therefore loose part of their identity. 
Speaking to Josh Pyke several years ago at Macquarie University, it was his opinion that his refusal to adopt an American accent that prevented larger success in his career.
