Week 4

This week is week 4, from the lecture class, I have learned that a well-crafted creative brief should be clear, simple, and focused on a single competitive message. It must communicate why consumers should choose a product over others by addressing their core motivations and needs. Crafting effective ads involves analyzing human appeals like love, security, or pleasure, which help capture attention and resonate emotionally. A focused creative brief, with one central theme, ensures that the ad remains powerful and aligned with the target audience's desires, guiding the development of a message that effectively drives consumer behavior and strengthens brand connection.

During this week which is week 5, I have learned that advertising research is a key aspect of marketing research, focusing on improving advertising effectiveness through the collection and analysis of data. It helps evaluate ads, campaigns, and media strategies, offering insights into consumer behavior. There are two types of advertising research: customized (client-specific) and syndicated (available to multiple clients). Successful advertising research requires asking the right questions, using proper research techniques, and clearly presenting findings to drive actionable outcomes. This research plays a vital role in crafting targeted, effective advertising strategies that resonate with consumers and meet business objectives.

For this week which is week 6, I have learned that a strong first impression is critical in advertising and varies across media, from the headline to the visuals or opening lines. The 4 U's formula—Urgent, Unique, Ultra-specific, and Useful—provides a blueprint for writing compelling headlines that grab attention and encourage immediate action. A good slogan, on the other hand, sums up a product’s brand and benefits, making it memorable and catchy. It helps reinforce the brand identity and is often combined with tunes or jingles, particularly in TV and radio ads, to leave a lasting impact on the audience.

In week 7, our 8 a.m. lecture was given online, and our speaker discussed our next group work. We were given the option of three fictional brands from various industries: Eden Cove Resorts (a resort), MKJR - Selangor Road Safety Council (a road safety effort), and Beauty Sphere Cosmetics (a beauty company). I believe this project will be both intriguing and enjoyable because it will involve generating TikTok videos, social media material, a radio commercial, and email marketing—some of which I have never done before. I'm excited to see what our group will come up with and how we can deliver unique results!

We are at Week 8, which is the week for independent learning. We are advised to concentrate on revising and finishing our tasks on our own during this time rather than attending any classes held in person. I proactively sent my assignment to my tutor for comments, asking for advice on how to make it better. I worked hard this week to improve my body paragraphs, trying to make them more interesting and fascinating. I gained valuable abilities from this approach that will help me produce material that effectively sparks readers' interest.

In Week 9, we returned to physical lectures, where the focus was on copywriting for TV and video commercials. The lecture covered 10 main types of TV ads, each serving a different purpose depending on the client’s advertising objectives and message. These included the Demonstration, which shows the product in action, such as “before and after” scenarios; the Problem-Solution/Slice of Life, where a problem is solved by the product; and the Spokesperson, in which a celebrity or expert promotes the product. Other types included Testimonial ads, featuring real user experiences; Dialogue, which presents a conversational tone; and Narrative, telling a full storyline. Additionally, the Product Approach focuses on showcasing the product’s appeal, while the Direct-Response approach emphasizes immediate action, like a toll-free number. Vignette ads use several brief episodes to reinforce a message, and Jingles rely on catchy music and lyrics to make the product memorable. Each format offers a unique way to craft a compelling TV ad that aligns with the campaign’s goals.
