Verona Etwinning Project IIS Omodeo Video of Verona The two Italian schools involved in the project took a trip to Verona because all of us had studied Romeo and Juliet , and the story is set there. During the visit, we split into groups and explored important places like Romeo’s house and Juliet’s house to get a real sense of the Shakespearean story. We made videos to show the other students what Verona is really like and to give them a glimpse of this famous love story’s background. Did you know Shakespeare’s R&J is actually based on a true story about two feuding families and their love?Verona Etwinning Project IIS Omodeo

Activity: In groups of 3-4 you are to choose one of the landmarks in Verona on our Shakespearean school trip to feature in our video for our international eTwinning students.

Our video will act as a virtual Shakespearean tour, introducing the landmark and its significance. You are to include the following points in your presentation:

Name and Description of the Landmark

What is the name of the landmark?

What type of place is it (e.g., house, balcony, square)?

Describe its appearance and notable features.

Historical Context

When was it built or established?

Who created it or originally owned it?

Any important events or history associated with it?

Shakespearean Connection

Which Shakespeare play or character is this landmark linked to?

Why is it important in Shakespeare’s works?

Share any famous scenes or stories related to this place.

Cultural and Tourist Importance

Why is this landmark significant to Verona’s cultural heritage?

How does it attract tourists and Shakespeare fans?

Include any local legends or interesting facts.

Tourist Guide Information

Where is the landmark located in Verona?

What can visitors expect to see and experience there?

Provide helpful tips for tourists planning to visit.

For this project, imagine you are a tourist guide giving a virtual Shakespearean tour to international students who cannot visit Verona. Your aim is to show and explain as much as possible about your chosen landmark. You may narrate without appearing on camera, focusing on clear visuals and informative commentary.

Even if you are not coming to Verona, you must contribute to the video production.

After all groups complete their videos, these will be combined to create a comprehensive virtual Shakespearean tour of Verona for our international eTwinning community.

BEYOND THE SCREEN

Digital Hearts: Staying Human in a Virtual Word

Ottavia,

Diana 3AL

IIS A. Omodeo

The eTwinning Project

The Secondary School IIS A. Omodeo took part for the second year in a row, in the eTwinning project, involving the third year students of the linguistic course. This project, lead by the teacher Mimma Laria who was also the founder of the project, gave the opportunity to the students to not only develop their fluency in English but also an insight into the digital world literacy, while interacting with other cultures all over Europe.

This project aimed to teach young teens how to act online, interact with others and develop skills like empathy, conflict resolution, self-awarness and how to express emotions.

This work did not only take place at school, but allowed students to travel to cities like Verona, all while learning about the stories of classical literature such as Romeo and Juliet.

The eTwinning Project

The Final Performance

And What Did the Spectators Think?

While the audience was primarily made up of the students involved in the project, the event also drew the attention of fellow peers and family members. Notably, the school Principal Ms. Stefania Pigorini was also in attendance, showing her support by personally giving the students their certificates at the conclusion of the performance as well as a speech in English!

But what was the verdict from the spectators? Gathering feedback from the audience revealed a variety of opinions.

On the one hand, several performances stood out for their exceptional quality and talent.

Some highlights featured students with fluent English and great public speaking skills, who dominated the stage with confidence and were genuinely excited to share their ideas. On the other side, a few presentations fell a bit short, showing signs of nerves or perhaps a lack of preparation and confidence. The event also ran into a few minor technical snags, especially with the audio quality during the student videos, which made it a bit hard to hear at times.

Still, despite the obvious stage fright and the pressure to make a good impression, the positive energy of the project won out. Most of the students really rose to the challenge, turning their nerves into fuel to showcase their hard work and new skills before proudly collecting their well-deserved certificates.

On Tuesday, May 19, the last performance of the eTwinning project took place at the Civic Library 17 in Mortara. The students worked to create representations to explain how to remain human in a digital world, from reciting poems to singing and dancing.

The library hosted the performance in its auditorium, providing the space and equipment to project the students' videos and ideas.

This final show was a resume of what the students learned and it included creative projects such as staged podcasts, in which students described how they spent a day without their phones, the difficulties and the positive aspects. Others used their problem-solving skills and talked about the trip to Verona. A number of students even participated with their musical and dancing skills, remaking or dancing to a song they thought it could fit the theme of the project and also explained why.

All of this while developing confidence in talking in front of an audience and also all in English!

STAYING HUMAN IN A DIGITAL WORLD

(An article for the ETwinning project by Lucrezia, Serena and Tommaso - 3BG Bachelet)

In an era where we are surrounded by screens and algorithms the question is no longer how much time we spend online, but what remains of us when we do. The border between the "real" and the "virtual" has dissolved.

Have you ever looked around a cafe and noticed that every single person is staring at a screen? Today, we don’t just use the internet; we live in it.

But in this constant stream of data, how can we stay human in a digital world?

Whenever we have a free moment, we instantly grab our phones because it has completely erased our boredom.

But boredom is actually a good thing. It gives our brains space to rest, think, and be creative. Try leaving your phone in your pocket for just a few hours a day and let your mind wander.

Algorithms want our lives to be perfectly smooth. They autocomplete our sentences and show us only things we already like.

However, in real life we need to talk to people face-to-face, make mistakes, and listen to different opinions.

It is incredibly easy to spend hours passively watching what other people are doing online.

The antidote is active creation. Instead of scrolling through food videos, try cooking a meal. Instead of looking at travel photos, go for a walk outside.

To stay human, we must reclaim our attention from our devices. You don’t need to throw away your smartphone, but you do need to remember that the best parts of life cannot be captured by a screen. We must use technology, without letting it use us.

Digital Hearts: Young People Connected Beyond Borders

Over the past few months, this project has involved young people from different countries, who have connected digitally and collaborated on a project that involves the responsible use of digital devices, enabling communication between young people who live far away.

This project was born to encourage communication and the responsible use of electronic devices. Through presentations and videos, the young people were able to complete this long-term project, which ran through the final months of the 2025–2026 school year.

The project also fostered the development of new digital skills among all participants. They learned new ways to use electronic devices, thanks to apps that allowed them to create their work and show it to the teachers involved, the school principal, and their colleagues who were part of this project.

Yesterday, the participants, the principal of the school, and the professors involved in this project met in the Mortara library, where they put on a performance: each participant was tasked with preparing a piece of work to show to the spectators, namely the participants themselves. At the end, the students had the opportunity to watch a video summarizing everything that had been accomplished over the past few months.

Digital Hearts thus became not only an educational activity, but also an experience in which participants used their electronic devices to foster inclusion and break down barriers between different countries. A project that demonstrated the value of international collaboration in the digital age.

"We can remain human in a digital world."

(English version)

In this school year, students of the school Angelo Omodeo, have participated in a project called “Digital Hearts: Staying Human in a Virtual World”. During this project, students have collaborated with other students from other countries on the same project and the goal was to show how devices can be used in a careful and positive way.

They did many activities such as drawing logos, doing presentations about things from their origins, video productions, presentations, activities about Romeo and Juliet and feelings online.

This experience allowed students to improve their digital skills and communication skills, in fact they discovered new tools and apps to create their projects and share them with teachers, who directed the project.

Then on 19 May 2026, they did a final performance, in the library of Mortara, where the principal was present together with the teachers who were involved in the project and other two classes who will do that project the following year.

Where each student group presented something they prepared to show their works like dance choreography, a podcast or a mini concert.

In the end, they all watched a video that summed up the entire project and then the principal awarded all the students who had participated. A phrase that can summarize this project is that we can stay human in a virtual world with our real feelings.

(Italian version)

Quest’anno scolastico, gli studenti della scuola Angelo Omodeo, hanno partecipato al progetto chiamato “Cuori Digitali: Rimanere Umani in un Mondo Virtuale”.
