I aim to help students discover themselves and explore who they are. I want to be able to help students understand themselves in a way that promotes positive mental health awareness. Another goal is to help students remove barriers preventing them from being who they want to become and know they can become. These barriers can be emotional, social, academic, and personal. There is not one aspect of the student we see daily. Each aspect deserves to be explored and nurtured to help the child grow. I want students to be successful in their academic careers, personal-social development, and career development. I have worked as a general education teacher, and have worked with diverse groups of students over the past five years.  I have worked with students who are learning English, students with varying needs, students with disabilities, etc.  Each year with each group of students I have made it a priority to help these students embark on their educational careers and guide them through different levels of achievement.  Every student deserves a counselor that believes in them and will work to ensure they reach their goals, and provide a safe environment for all students. One of my main goals is to continue to work in Title 1 schools and expose these students to academic and career opportunities that they may not know are available to them and will benefit them.

I believe the school counselor's role is to provide the necessary resources for students to not only be successful academically but also socially and emotionally. All students have diverse and ever-changing needs that they may not always know how to deal with. As a school counselor, I want to equip every student with the skills they need for self-advocacy and to thrive in a globally diverse world. According to the ASCA National Model framework, school counselors are to advocate for the learning needs of all students and to make sure they receive the appropriate accommodations no matter the environment (ASCA, 2019).  

My vision as a future school counselor is to help students achieve what they put their minds to. I am committed to ensuring students feel safe and have the opportunity to thrive not only as a student but as future contributors to society.
