The inner coffin was made of solid gold, however when Carter discovered the tomb it was covered in a thick black layer that covered his body from his hand to his ankles. The main portion of art tells the story of King Tutankhamun and his journey into the afterlife. A ceremony is performed on him, in this part of the piece he is depicted as Osiris. He is then dressed in the costume of the living king, and then goes into the underworld with his Ka, and embraces Osiris in the afterlife. These images are used to idealize how King Tutankhamun is doing in he afterlife. The art depicts him having a happy and orderly life in the afterlife.
