This article describes the drastic effects that Texas and Louisiana experienced as a result of Hurricane Harvey. This disastrous hurricane left more than 100,000 homes completely damaged and only 17% of the affected residents had flood insurance. The amount of damage done has been estimated to exceed the cost of damages from Hurricane Katrina, at $114.5 billion paid on an estimated $160 billion in damages. This causes immense pressure on these populations economically which also effects them mentally. As these populations continue to be hit with such severe natural disasters one after another, they become traumatized and develop anxiety, mood disorders, or even post traumatic stress disorder.

This article serves as an example of the various ways in which a place might prepare its population to endure the effects of a natural disaster.
