Through the sources gathered i have learned that male dominance is prevalent through fairytale work. Women are depicted as individuals who are dependent and need a man, in order to be saved. This is seen in Cinderella. Cinderella is a female character who is depicted as a servant, and is rescued by the Prince. Disney's Cinderella is based on Perrault's Cinderella. Similarly, Ever After is an adaptation of Cinderella where the Princess is saved by the Prince, who at first deceived her. Male empowerment in Cinderella can also be related to Cardi B, and Kash Dolls song because they look up to men as financial providers. In these songs mens money is a symbol of security, and power. Furthermore, I also learned that some remakes of fairytales also challenge societal roles. For example; Rodgers & Hammerstein's Film Cinderella. It is a role played by a black women, someone belonging to an oppressed group within Society. Brandy, the black Cinderella is offered a royal position through marrying the Prince. With this she is saved from the trauma of being a house slave through the presence of a man. This depiction shows the amount of power in which the male with holds. This is a change because historically people of colour would never be depicted as royalty, in Cinderella. As a source i also used Ella Enchanted, a remake of Cinderella with a Princess who is very obedient. Her curse is what enables her to follow strict orders set by men as well as women. By the end in order to break the curse she finds true love, once again depicting the male as a true hero. Finally, In my work there are three Scholarly sources which belong to Parson, Dupont, and Houwers.
