Culturally responsible teaching methods

• Have students research about their own personal background and learn more their culture to share with the class

• Adapt teaching style by getting to know each student and offering a variety of ways to learn the material, I.e. group projects, games, or repeat after me.

• Host a multicultural food day, have students bring a food that represents their culture, they can give a short presentation about that food and their culture and then all the students can taste what everyone brought.

• Accept feedback from students and caregivers on teaching methods

Fostering a multicultural classroom environment

• Have appropriate decorations from different cultures in the room or none at all, to not single out specific cultures

• Try different set ups when it comes to desk or alternative seating options to see what works best for each student

• Have often open discussions about differences, how they make us who we are, and how to be respectful of others

• Celebrate allowed national holidays for different cultures represented in the class and those that aren’t.

Engagement with families and community

• invite families to participate in our multicultural food day

• Host a “walk of cultures” project where others can walk by different students lined up like a museum dressed in different cultural attire and learn about that culture

• Host an art show that represents different cultures that family, caregivers, and the community can attend.

• Ask family or community members to come give presentations on the culture they represent once a month
