In fact, the original Thor was even cooler! As were many of the other Gods Marvel features in his movies. He had more mythical equipment  than Marvel provided for him, such as Járnglófar, a set of metal gloves he needed to wear to wield his hammer, Mjölnir. I would highly recommend researching this further, if you're curious! It's always very interesting to see different depictions of Gods.
