At the same time, I also want to bring into the space that there is a lot of controversy surrounding MoCA’s space in Chinatown and its contributions to gentrification, as well as its acceptance of a $35 million grant in 2021 which many community members see as a buy-out from an organization which aims to build a mass incarceration center in the community. It shows just how complex history is, and in these convos about historiography we would be remiss to miss out on this important part of the convo that our Chinatown community has been having!
