For a long time Germany was divided. Back then, Austria had the most power but it wasn't long until Prussia gained more power. As the war progressed, German speakers began to feel a sense of unity and joined the war. Revolutions began in 1848 and spread throughout Germany. In 1861, King Wilhelm the first became king of Prussia and he appointed Bismarck as Chancellor. Bismarck then started many wars and forced Germany to divide. Prussia soon became the dominant force for the German Unification. Finally, the Germans defeated France and proclaimed Wilhelm the first the new emperor.

The German Empire was founded on January 18th, 1871. After Bismarck won three consecutive wars. Within seven years, Denmark, the Habsburg monarchy, and France, were vanquished. The nation was also formed through the strong sense of unity coming from the people and through the diplomatic agreements between parties. Prussia was also the most dominant still and occupied most of Germany.

After Rome fell, the Italian Peninsula was split up and there wasn't much of a reason for unification. When the revolutions began in 1848 however, they began to fought against higher powers for their independence. This attempt was the the first Italian war and it unfortunately failed. Since Italy wanted to be unified still, Victor Emmanuel sent troops to Crimea to fight Russians alongside the British and the French in order to gain an ally. After gaining one, they attacked Austria 1858 starting the second war of Italian independence. They emerged victorious. In mid 1860, Garibaldi handed over his southern conquest to Victor Emmanuel. The kingdom of Italy was then established in 1861. However, the Italians would have to wait until 1870 before they could capture Rome.

In March 1854, France and England intervened in support of the Ottoman Empire against Russia in the Crimean War. Piedmont sent troops to help them and they did excellent. Using this victory, he gained allies to help him against Austria. In the war of 1859, Piedmont asked France for assistance against Austria. France agreed to help them and Austria declared war a couple days later. The war was bloody but eventually, Italy emerged victorious and gained independence.

During the Napoleonic War, the British helped the Portuguese escape Europe and set up court in Brazil. After the war, Portugal was still mainly ruled by the British and this angered their people. In the Liberal Revolution of 1820, they rebelled and captured the major cities. They also set up a Cortes which was an assembly of important people. Pedro was left in charge of Brazil but his power was reduced by the Cortes and Brazil was soon broken up. After traveling around, Pedro got news that the Cortes wanted to remove all of his remaining power and abolish all of his government reforms. Upon hearing this, Pedro declared independence and traveled back to Rio. Brazil separated from Portugal and Pedro became emperor. Some however still remained loyal to Portugal and Portugal even had troops stationed in Brazil. Brazil hired help from Brazil especially Thomas Cochrane, whom when the Portuguese saw his fleet they retreated instead of fighting. Cochrane then managed to get the Portuguese to surrender without even having to fight. Mean while Portugal had descended into civil war and were unable to send reinforcements so they made peace in 1824. Pedro did not lead for long and left his son in charge instead.

Brazil gained independence with a very insignificant amount of bloodshed than others. When Napoleon invaded Portugal, they fled to Brazil and were welcomed. Most of the Portuguese desired John VI to rule, but he stayed away. So he appointed his son Pedro to rule instead. Pedro had it rough because the Portuguese and the Brazilians were becoming antagonistic. The Cortes then ordered Pedro to leave, which he didn't. Instead he fought back, convincing the Brazilians to be on his side. Eventually, he proclaimed Brazil independent and became emperor. The United States and Portugal recognized them as a new nation afterwards.
