The Native American Indians wanted to be free from the Spanish rule because span wasn't treating them nicely and forcing them what to do. In 1846, The San Diego mission fell into ruins. The Spanish decided to secularize the missions themselves after 10 years of operation. It took almost 16 years to release all of the missions in Alta California from the control of the Mexican
Goverment.

Missions and land belong to Spain, Trying to keep out Russia and other countries. In 1821 new Spain revolted against Spain because they weren't treated fairly. After Mexico took over they wanted all the rich for themselves so they planned to send more Mexicans so they can make themselves stronger. The Mexicans planned to secularization the mission either turning it into a house or restaurants and they would sell it too the highest bidder. The missionaries would loose everything they did the past few years because of secularization and they did everything to prevent the secularization.

Missions and land belonged to Spain and are trying to keep Russia from taking over there land. In New Spain the Indians were treated unfairly because they didn't all have the same jobs. The Secularization took away financial control of the catholic church. And most buildings were token away which meant Indians were free to leave the mission.

The Indians couldn't hunt because the cattle and sheep had driven of the game in the area around them.

Gold was found after the war. In 1840 there were only 100 Indians living at San Juan Capistrano. San Juan Capistrano was sold and  John Forster  bid for $54,000 to have  San Juan Capistrano . In 1865 Abraham Lincoln sighed the order returning the mission San Juan Capistrano. The Indian lost there homes in the missions San Juan Capistrano. In 1846-1848 American troops fought Mexican for control of the land that they calmed. In August 1834 the law passed to mexico seance they won the war.

From this project, I gained a better understanding of the history and the human geography of the city San Jose. Besides, this project enriched my knowledge of San Jose. For example,

In 1846, Mexico had attacked the U.S. Troops in Texas, which allowed Americans to gain control of California. Upon gaining that control, Archbishop Joseph Sadoc Alemany filed a claim to return all former mission lands on behalf of the Roman Catolic Church.

After, all the land that contained the mission buildings, cemeteries, and gardens were transferred back to the Catholic Church through patents and proclamations signed by the U.S. Presidents between 1855 and 1874.

Soon after, San Jose Mission was turned into a hotel for people in the Gold Rush. It was also used as a general store, saloon, and hotel during that time. In 1853, the mission became the local parish church.
