         <title>Mitosis </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The process of Mitosis, in which a parent diploid cell DNA is duplicated and divides once, creating two identical daughter cells with the same number of chromosomes, involves five key phases, which include:</p><ol><li><p>Prophase</p></li><li><p>Prometaphase</p></li><li><p>Metaphase</p></li><li><p>Anaphase</p></li><li><p>Telophase</p></li></ol><p>(Fowler et al., 2023).</p><p>In the fifth phase (Telophase), two daughter cells identical to the parent nucleus are separated. This is followed by Cytokinesis, which finishes the division of the daughter cells (Fowler et al., 2023). Additionally, Mitosis takes place in somatic cells, which are "body cells" that contain "two matched sets of chromosomes" (diploid) (Fowler et al., 2023). </p><p><br></p><p>Citations</p><p>Baker, D.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Meiosis is the process in which a single diploid cell is duplicated and then divided twice, resulting in four non-identical daughter cells. Like Mitosis, Meiosis has five key phases:</p><ol><li><p>Prophase</p></li><li><p>Prometaphase</p></li><li><p>Metaphase</p></li><li><p>Anaphase</p></li><li><p>Telophase</p></li></ol><p>(Fowler et al., 2023). </p><p>During Meiosis, the diploid parent cell is divided into two haploid cells that contain half the number of chromosomes in a diploid cell. After this division occurs, the cells begin to divide again, during the telophase II phase, into four non-identical haploid cells called gametes (reproduction cells) (Fowler et al., 2023). As with Mitosis, Cytokinesis completes the division process, producing the four genetically non-identical daughter cells. </p><p>Known as "Mendels Law of Independent Assortment," the variety of genetic traits produced when two gametes (sperm and egg cell) combine is due to the half number of chromosomes contained in each daughter cell (gamete) that  is a product of the Meiosis process, which contain genes that have independently separated allowing for a variety of traits to be possible during reproduction (Fowler et al., 2023). </p><p><br/></p><p>Citations</p><p>The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica.
