The way Matt was raised and taught that Attean is just another savage his family put in his mind (and that is not his fault) that American Indians is a savage. Like when they fish for example Attean was taught to fish with a spear and Matt was taught with a fishinhg pole. So Attean has to deal with that Matt has a more civilized with guns and fishing poles and things that are man-kind. Attean is more "make everything yourself kind" and more you cans say hard-working and clever.

  • Matt is very bent on 'white man' ways, but he is very accepting of Attean's perspective after he sees how well Attean's way works.
  • Matt is a nervous boy trying to make a living. I would consider him an average boy with extraordinary situations.
  • Matt is the opposite of cautious because he forgot to latch the cabin door, and he even went for the bees' honey.
