That is why one must learn how to navigate through strengths and weaknesses to become a successful Project Manager in Construction. Some of my assets entail; strong leadership qualities in line with my experience in handling different teams and challenging projects. Knowledge in the use of project management software and adequate knowledge of the construction methods and the regulations upheld in the construction business enables me to effectively manage projects and meet the timelines set. I pride myself on my sharp analytical skills, to solve any emerging mishap in the organization. However, I am aware of its weaknesses and this includes lack of experience with some new construction technologies. Regarding this, I will seek more training to perform specialized training and keep abreast of the developments in the industry. Furthermore, workaholic tendencies still prevail in my personality: I work overtime, which is the consequence of my engagement; however, I am going to install more transparent working-time borders and learn how to manage my time more efficiently. They are areas in which I believe I can perform to the best of my ability and help in the success of construction projects.

To achieve my goal of changing my current program of Business Management at Fleming College to be a project manager in construction I have a work plan. In my first semester that ranges from May to August of the year 2024, I will be aiming at finishing all my assignments and assessing my weak areas concerning construction management. To achieve this goal, I will attend specialized professional development workshops and online courses in September- December 2024 and, therefore, get volunteer opportunities in construction wherein I will meet professional constructors and get a feel of what it involves. During the third semester from January to April, 2025 I will strengthen my network by joining an association and attending their events to seek more information on business management and construction management and start to plan on the type of projects that I am going to do for my Capstone project. For the last semester, I will perform my capstone project from May to August, 2025 while it must solve any concrete construction problem and also obtain necessary certification, if it is needed. I hope to use my capstone project as a portfolio to get internships or entry-level positions in the construction management field; as well, I plan to study more and enroll in as many certification programs as possible to grow in my career.

Communication, Culture, and Work

For this week, I am focusing more on the culture of communication with insiders and outsiders in the organization particularly at Tim Hortons, and the construction career I had in the past. In both fields, communication becomes important as it would be to make customers get their orders perfectly or craft construction tasks in the right and safest ways. As for now, I can easily say that I meet people of different cultures both as customers and coworkers in Tim Hortons. This means that whether a specific culture is verbal in the way it communicates or written in terms of how people anticipate being communicated to, I am in a better position to befit the culture thus making conversations much easier. This awareness not only increases customer satisfaction but also enhances teamwork, especially during a shift. Likewise in construction, you need to have communication at a point where all those involved understand their working scope in relations to safety and time frame.

In both these environments, I have appreciated that it is not only the use of language but also the understanding of culture including ideas, gesture, attitudes, and readiness to follow instructions or respond to comments. I believe these skills may also apply to my current learning at Fleming College namely Business Management course. The academic setting of college enables me to learn more regarding cultural differences since the majority of friends originate from different cultures. This will be of great importance as I progress in my learning of business and preparation for a career in the construction field.

In my future endeavors in academia and the workforce, I intend to pay more attention to my communication skills issues to do with cultural difference and integrate these points into my work and projects. Ultimately, I think that good communication, together with cultural sensitivity will be vital when or if I get to managing or owning a business.

Listening/writing

Introduction: Writing and listening are two skills that have been a subject of focus in this week’s learning. Both of them have been helpful throughout my students’ and workers’ way, particularly in the process of studying business management and working at Tim Hortons.

Listening Experience: In the context of the last week, learning has been fundamental in my academic and even working life, especially through listening. In class, active listening enables me to comprehend difficult business ideas and contribute properly to group discussions. Another realisation is that listening skills are important when working and especially when interacting with customers or other employees. I can read and comprehend instructions well, tend to serve customers notably and reduce my likelihood of error.

With listening I found it difficult to pay close attention especially when the speaker took a long time to pass a message. In some cases, there may be much going on around me, or I may get bored or so tired that I may not focus well. In an attempt to surmount this, I adopted strategy like taking notes and asking questions that would help get a general understanding. These helped me remain alert, and to make certain I did not lose any valuable knowledge.

Writing Experience: Writing is a form that has been used in learning throughout this week. Many of the assignments I have completed involved sorting and structuring the information and being able to defend arguments. For instance, I managed to work on the capstone project and the Product Adaptation Challenge assignment. These tasks ask for not only creativity but also communication skills hence the place of writing as a cardinal virtue.

Conclusion: Listening and writing belong to the same family of receptive skills and they help in advancing my student facilities as well as employee abilities. I consider listening as the means to collect information and writing as the tool to evaluate it. These skills will help me to cope with my studies and be more effective at work so by enhancing them I am gaining academic abilities.

Verbal and non-verbal Communication

Introduction: In this particular reflection, I shall discuss the verbal and non-verbal communication encountered during this week. Both types of communication are essential in daily life for students, academics, employees, and every individual entity. This week I focused on awareness of how I apply these skills in various settings, more so in my business management classes as well as at Tim Hortons.

Verbal Communication Experience: The process of verbal communication is very crucial in nearly all class discourses and my experiences at the workplace. In class, I spoke to my group members and delivered group presentations, which involved expressing myself fluently. I have discovered that even the way that I speak is a critical factor determining the appositeness of my message. For instance, at Tim Hortons communication is primarily verbal when serving customers, and I learned to be politely assertive and formal.

The experience I had a difficulty in verbal communication is between assertiveness and briefness. Occasionally I also join the dots, which is a British format of explaining causes in detail thus making the listener more confused. This week, I chose assertiveness by speaking directly using appropriate language with my clients or in class, particularly when joining group discussions. This enabled me to enhance my communication and reduce misunderstandings and inefficiencies.

Non-verbal Communication Experience: Thus gestures are found to have a major role in supporting or at times, opposing the verbal signals that are communicated. This week, I paid attention to how I sat, how I moved my arms and legs, and even the way I faced my interlocutor. For example in making presentations in class, I ensured I sat properly, looked at the presentation audience squarely in the eye, and wore the facial look that depicts a person who is interested in the content being presented in the class. I was able to employ the non-verbal cues about facial expressions and body language that would make me seem more confident and as such focused on what I was speaking about in addition to another verbal aspect.

In essence, non-verbal communication signs work hand in hand with verbal communication at the workplace. It also means that simple gestures such as a smile or nod would go a long way in putting new or potential customers at ease. I became aware of the fact that because I may be sleepy, I can develop poor body language that may negatively sway the customers’ attitudes. To counter this I had to make extra efforts to cultivate good posture whenever I was busy or stressed.

Challenges and Learning: The problem with body language is that much of what we communicate through it can occur involuntarily, and thus, we might be sending a different signal than what we’re telling others verbally. This week we had to coordinate vocal and visual messages and, as a result, I practiced this aspect of my communication skills. For example, in case I talked to my coworkers or my classmates giving them some instructions or directions, my tone of voice reflected the same thing as my gestures and facial expressions.

Conclusion: I am also glad that in my communication I apply both; verbal and non-verbal communication since they can help me in my academics as well as my career. In these aspects, I have increased my level of competence in presenting messages and in enhancing the relationship with people. Thank you this week for the awareness to not only speak but also be aware of my body language and other aspects of my communication.

Interpersonal Strategies and Skills

Interpersonal Strategies: In The Classroom

In my business management classes, I used various strategies to improve my interactions with peers and professors:

Active Listening: Me: I ensured I listened carefully to what others were saying in a group before contributing. This made me learn how others reason and also enabled me to add something constructive to the conversation.

Openness to Feedback: I asked my classmates and professors to provide me with feedback on all my work. Allowing them to suggest something, enabled me to be able to enhance my performance by coming up with other ways of doing things.

Empathy: In the group projects, I learned about empathy as I sought to know how friends felt about issues. This new format made it easier to work together because you felt the support of the other members.

Interpersonal Skills at Work

At Tim Hortons, applying interpersonal skills is essential for good customer service and teamwork:

Patience and Clarity: I therefore ensured that I was calm, courteous, and articulate to customers while on duty. This way, I could meet them and give them the best experience based on understanding that was needed from them.

Teamwork: I tried to focus on the enhancement of communication with my co-workers. Just as it was useful to have a well-coordinated division of labor where simple tasks were divided equally and difficult ones were given to us in turns; teamwork also added an optimistic work culture to our shift.

Challenges and Learning

This week, I faced a few challenges in developing my interpersonal skills:

Managing Conflicts: As a part of a group assignment, there was a conflict as to how the work should be done. I complied with tactics such as counseling and going for reconciliations to reduce conflict and guide the group to agree and focus on the mainstream activities.

Using Non-verbal Cues: I discovered an important aspect of this category that makes people recognize my acts of communication such as nodding or even maintaining eye contact. Knowledge of these cues enhanced communication making it more efficient while establishing rapport with both classmates and customers.

Conclusion: The understanding of interpersonal strategies and skills discussed during this week helped me to see the importance of the tools to create successful relationships including communication, empathy, and group work. It is very important to be polite in the classroom or at the workplace applying such skills make the environment positive and /or productive. Thus, they have not only the potential of enhancing my interpersonal communications to become more productive in informational careers but also of improving my interpersonal communications by being an integrative member of different teams in my life.

Interviewing

This week I devoted myself to acquiring knowledge and gaining experience in the process of interviewing to get a job. I concluded that performance in an interview depends more on preparation, fluency, and appearance.

Preparation and Research: This is one particular thing that I had to learn the hard way, the need to prepare before going for an interview. I rehearsed what kind of information about the company and the position I sought that would be likely to appeal to the employer. It also provided me with key points for addressing questions such as “Why do you have an interest in engaging in our company?”

I also rehearsed simple questions such as ‘Can you tell me about yourself,’ and ‘What are your strengths?’ Writing down my answers was helpful because when I was answering the questions during the interview I knew what I wanted to say.

Communication Skills: I focused on increasing my skills in how to approach a typical interview. In an effort not to puff the interviewer with long responses that they may not even understand I ensured I only provided short clear answers. It also helped me deal with a basic fear – feeling like I was out of control and my voice would crack – which was useful in helping me sound more professional.

Non-verbal Communication: I also took my time and checked how I sat and moved during the interview. About the nonverbal communication strategies I mimic, I rehearsed making eye contact, proper sitting position, and a good handshake. They are the minor things that make the duo or individual look confident and achieve the impression of loose the game.

Using the STAR Method: I understood the need to use STAR while answering behavioral interview questions. The STAR method means, Situation, Task, Action, and Result. It assists me in coming up with a well-structured and sub-headed format for my experience. For example, when it concerns teamwork, I could write STAR for situation, task, action, and result which will help me what to write.

Challenges: Some of the difficulties I experienced include shyness or fear of interviews. One moment, people get different kinds of nerves and this may not allow one to make sound decisions. Before interviews, I had to learn to breathe deeply and it proved useful.

The other difficulty lies in the inability to avoid intellectualizing the message. Though I stressed myself practicing is necessary at the same time I was concerned with sounding artificial as if I had learned my answers by heart. I made sure my answers were understandable, but not overly formal: this helped me feel less stressed.

Conclusion: This week I found out a lot of things about interviewing and I feel lot more comfortable now. I learned that before the interview you should be prepared and organized, while during the interview the nonverbal communication is crucial: neither nodding nor frowning while the company’s representative is speaking. They will enable me to acquire better grades that will in turn enable me to secure employment with my desired employer.

Currently, I am a student at Fleming College working towards achieving a Business Management diploma: In the course of my studies, I get to learn more about how communication is enhanced and how management is carried out in organizations in different parts of the world with a focus on cultural qualities.

While currently employed with Tim Hortons I have extensive practice in dealing with customers and co-workers from diverse cultures. This has helped me build an effective three-way information sharing between my clients and me, whether they are comfortable with spoken dialogue or would like written directions and instructions. This skill has also helped in improving the satisfaction of customers and also has created a healthy working culture in that the teams have to work at night.

Previous work in the construction industry has also shown the significance of communicating effectively. Here, I strictly controlled all the members of the team by clearly explaining to them the characteristics of projects, safety measures, and time limits. Thanks to this realization, I maintain clear communication in my behavior with people and make every gesture, attitude, and cultural feature appreciable, especially if something appears ambiguous. Through this project, I have developed a safety culture and acquired a deep appreciation of the interaction between communication and success.

While I engage in my studies at Fleming College I still incorporate such communication skills when dealing with different people in teams. The learning environment as a valuable resource has been very helpful in enhancing my perception and understanding of cultural diversity — skills I want to apply at XYZ as I strive to pursue a fulfilling career in business management and successful, culturally competent intercessional communication.

Although I have discussed my qualifications, experience, and interest in applying for this position to the best of my understanding, I wish to extend my application with these additional comments: As such, I show a lot of interest in joining your team to bring my experience and education into the achievement of your organizational objectives. I would like to have a chance to explain what part of the Company I could join and how I can contribute to it.

Sincerely,
Inderpal Singh

During week 10, I analyzed the nature of meetings and the value that they have in the increased efficiency of a team and overall organization. Given this, it is critical to understand the qualities and vices to achieve optimal results when interpreting team performances in Construction Project Management. Among my strengths, it is possible to list leadership skills because, during my work, I managed different teams and faced some vital tasks. These skills enable me to manage all meetings with success with such qualities as focus.

Successful meetings should be planned with correct goals and desirable schedules. Knowing in detail the project management software that can be applied as well as having a general view of the construction types and the rules that need to be followed makes me capable of setting up clear meeting objectives and guaranteeing that any discussion relevant to this issue will go in the right direction. Depending on the meetings, the detailed analysis allows me to solve any arising concerns as I lead the team.

But this is where I think my weaknesses are, for example, I lack relevant experience working with some of the new technologies used in new construction. This gap can affect any conversations involving modern techniques, which is why I will not stop attending courses and gain more extensive knowledge on the subject. Moreover, my disposition to work longer hours with many hours into the day can impact my behavior in handling meetings by causing burnout. To address this, I am practicing learning how to set better organizational boundaries and time well as this will add to the benefit of meetings as a way of keeping one occupied and balanced.

A second key feature of the meetings involves seeking to have all attendees actively involved during discussions. Engagement ensures that there is trust among individuals leading to the development of an environment in which everyone’s contribution is welcomed. Concerning my career plan of becoming a construction manager in the future, I will ensure that these strategies, besides my leadership qualities enable me to make meetings more efficient places to have all understood feedback given and collaboration to take place frequently.

In essence, recapping the meeting concerning the topics and responsibilities is equally important. In doing so, everyone remains clear on their expectations and what the next course of action is to be, thus making follow-up notes effective. Continuing this practice along with day-to-day constant improvement in the manner I manage meetings will better the outcome of projects and increase the effectiveness of the teams in place.

In summary, the teaching and learning point of Week 10 helped to instantiate the significance of appropriate management of meetings as a way to foster teamwork, maintain coherence, and attain set goals within the project. Through this way, by maintaining and developing these practices I increase my effectiveness in output and can develop my career as construction project manager.

Introduction

In the fast-growing and rather competitive world of contemporary business, leadership performance is closely tied to the performance of teamwork. Organizations' leaders are central to ensuring that all the stakeholders harness their resources and coordinate to achieve performance objectives despite existing obstacles. This article focuses on key leadership approaches that contribute positively to team dynamics and utilizes current peer-reviewed literature to provide working examples.

Main Approaches to Managing a Team

Whenever there is interactivities between individuals in the course of exercising team duties, leadership efficiency is fundamental. The person at the leadership level must be able to work with different personalities and talents effectively. Specific leadership behavior, such as transformation leadership, has been identified to improve team morale and productivity, especially when accompanied by a vision that motivates everyone and encourages idea generation. In the words of Smith & Johnson (2021), the effectiveness of a working team tends to be higher with transformational leaders, as such leadership fosters a motivational environment.

Communication: The beadwork of Team Operations

It must be noted that clear communication is the foundation of to efficient team’s operations. While it is necessary to simply exchange information, it also serves to check whether each member of the team is committed to the goals of the team. Business communication channels should be formal and unimpeded since they create credibility that is necessary for the organization’s working and in addressing disputes. In their study, Lee et al. (2020) revealed that organizations with strong communication patterns are 30% more productive than organizations with weak communication patterns.

There is no struggle if there is no conflict; people seek conflict resolution when some of the techniques become unbearable.

Disputes occur sometimes in teams and that is where the question of dispute resolution comes in as a measure of how strong a team is and whether or not it can keep its eyes focused on the end goal. Leaders use skills, and techniques like listening, conflict resolution, and conflict management to manage conflicts. These methods make it possible to ensure that response relationships and mutual understanding between the teams are oriented at cooperation success factors. According to Khan (2019), conflicts can be seen from two perspectives where effective management of the conflicts results in enhanced creative solutions to the problems facing the team as well as resultant improved cohesiveness.

Leveraging Diversity

Diversity within the teams is one of the strongest advantages when people do come with different points of view and the team will benefit from such a point of view when solving the problem. Managers who consciously bring into focus these different perspectives in the organization are also likely to arrive at more creativity and success. Chang (2022) states that there is a positive relationship between diversity and team output and this is because of the

richness of ideas that are inflicted in the policy-making process.

Conclusion

Design elements like Transformational Leadership, proper communication, Conflict Management, and Embracing Diversity can greatly enhance the Operation’s Team performance. This paper will try to identify how concepts such as ar jedním z toho, and jak organizational culture, which pay attention to developing such characteristics in their leaders, are in a better position to achieve their strategic plans as the business environment becomes increasingly unpredictable. Through the adoption of the fo Jaher strategies, it becomes possible to precipitate a corresponding positive organizational culture that results in organizational success.

References

Chang, W.

Learning Journey

As I write this blog about this course and what I have learned I find myself somewhat in awe of the process I have gone through. During the term, I’ve participated in activities and assignments based on which I learned how to think critically, work in teams, and analyze real-life situations in light of the theories studied in the course. These are not forms of learning alone but used in a practical way that has enabled me to gain reminiscing skills in strategic capabilities like organizing, and cultural understanding among other composite abilities.

Among all the assignments, the most valuable was the group assignment on GAP Inc. This assignment entailed lots of research, teamwork, and presentation, so I realized the need to imbibe the culture of teamwork. This made me realize how our work impacted the overall presentation, how we put together our ideas, and how we effectively captured the content knowledge we had on the subject.

Reflection on E-Portfolio

Constructing the e-portfolio has been an informative and inventive experience. It gave a chance for a structural presentation of the work, experiences, and accomplishments completed so far. Consequently, I was able to self-identify the skills that I need to build on and those that I need to develop, which has helped map out the academic major, and consequently, my career.

Utilizing tools such as project reports, reflective essays, or joint work, the artifacts in my E-Portfolio reflect upon one’s journey through the course. Also, the course of developing the e-portfolio has reflected professionalism and concern for minor aspects. Post their creation, I intend more contributions to the e-portfolio and fixing future projects, certifications, and achievements in it, to ensure it is comprehensive.

Key Takeaways

Personal Growth:: The course has given me confidence especially in the areas of communication, both; oral and written, which will in future assist me in my academic and career life.

Teamwork Skills: Teamwork: has been achieved by working with other students on group projects; teaching me how to best work in diverse groups and with diverse behaviors.

Professionalism: Putting together the e-portfolio has also enabled me to learn effectively how to showcase my work and accomplishments professionally as well as effectively.

Looking Ahead

As this course comes to an end, it offers an excellent opportunity to ensure that skills acquired in future academic and professional placements will be sound. My e-portfolio is going to be used in the showcased manner to demonstrate my result and the potential of mean communication to employers and other audiences. Hence, there will be an acknowledgment of more learning experiences in the future and self-development toward the long-term goal of being a leader of a construction firm or owning one.

Working towards My Goals in the Next Two Years

In the next two years, tangible efforts need to be made to work towards the goal in terms of professional career. These include:

Completing My Business Management Diploma: My plan for the future will be directed toward making the best of my coursework and extending my knowledge of management concepts and approaches.

Gaining Industry Experience: My strategy is to seek internships or part-time jobs in either the construction industry or business management sector in the future.

Building My Skill Set: I will begin to acquire professional development certifications, and training from notable fields that include project management, safety in working space, and IT-related tools concerning construction work and projects.

Networking: A primary strategy for fulfilling a crucial part of this mission will be to seek out involvement, for myself personally and for our programs and services, in all pertinent industry engagements such as conferences, workshops, and seminars by professionals with valuable insights.

Enhancing My E-Portfolio: From time to time I will add new projects, certificates, and other important experiences to my e-portfolio, to support my further development as a professional.

Staying on track to these goals and having those skills I have learned in this course gives me the confidence to be able to quickly take on leadership roles in the construction industry and succeed in getting a construction firm.
