Princess Merida is raised by her mother to be a princess and succeed her as queen. She needs to follow custom of the ancestors. But Merida prefers archery, given by her father, and riding through the wild forests of Scotland.She was offered to the heirs of other Scottish clans. She tries at any cost to fight for her freedom - even if it hurts those she loves most.

Merida's call

Merida flees to the forest and stops at a structure similar to Stonehenge. There, she encounters floating blue lights, which seem to invite her to follow them.

Merida's mentor

Inside the forest she enters lights leading to a witch's house. She then requests her help, which gives her an unintended potion to change her mother. But when the potion takes effect, the transformation of the queen is not exactly what expected.

But as usual the triplets (now that they have returned to human form, along with their mother) hitchike in one of the ships and their father goes in search of them.
