Classroom generated norms based on values rather than rules. Refer back to these norms when they are broken and provide opportunities to talk through the consequences of a student's actions. Structures and routines give students the head space/safety within the classroom to focus on learning.
Week 2: PBIS 
Misbehavior in school should be viewed as a relational issue that needs to be repaired rather than punished. Students need to be viewed as a whole child with many layers of needs. (Basic, Social Emotional, and Academic Growth). Students need to be active participants in seeking justice and repairing harm. 
Week 3: Engagement

1.     Use veteran teachers for ideas/ have them observe
2.     Video tape yourself--Notice where you make mistakes and do well
3.     Specific/observable rules so students understand when they are breaking the rules (vague rules are hard to follow)
4.     2X10—Connect with students for 2 minutes for ten days straight—Connect with “challenging” students
5.     Attend after school activities--Shows students you care--developing relationships
6.     Join students at recess--Developing relationships

Week 2: PBIS
Three aspects of a whole child focus
1.     Basic needs
2.     Social emotional
3.     Academic growth
Rupture/Repair cycle: need to repair relationships with the students after blow up
Making a plan: What will the adult do after an incident with a student?—Classroom guidelines for teacher
Co-Constructed environments—Students understand rules and help make/implement the rules and consequences (positive or negative)
 
Week 3: High expectations that aren’t rushed “learning is a marathon, not a sprint”

By keeping instruction active, engaging, culturally adept, and with variety, this can help with creating a more effective (and fun) learning space. 

This module provided some great recommendations for restorative practices that we can use in our classrooms as well.
