As God created the nature - humans created the culture. What is the importance of the culture for individuals? Do we need to preserve it or live with it? If culture is ever changing - does the human nature changes with it? I have learnt today that I have more questions than the answers. It is exciting to look into the future where the answers to my questions can be found...

It seems to be the paradise but there are visible problems.

My first and most important learning point for today is that everyone should be open-minded concerning the behaviour of other people or cultures. There is always a reason for the behaviour. Perhaps I understand the other one in a wrong way. Communication is difficult, especially when you speak to a more or less unknown person. Even when I speak to my family or friends there could be misunderstandings. So you should always ask the others why they deal or speak like this.

It is embarrassing to know that the not white population lived for such a long time in slavery conditions. So I could easier understand that some people are still suspicious and reserved. And there are still frontier lines between them even in a geographically sense: the two Islands in Guadeloupe.

Another input is the fact that outdoor activities are very important for the motivation of pupil and teacher. The ideas should come from the pupils themselves.

Conclusion: What a great day with nice people. Looking forward...

Tuesday, 20th of September 2022

What I have learned today:

Today I have learnt about various, highly interesting aspects of intangible cultural heritage:

First of all, it is the formerly mainly oral tradition of the creole language spoken on Gouadeloupe that came into being because of the necessary need for the former French colonisers with their former slaves from different African countries. Later, this formerly mainly spoken creole language was turned into written pieces of writing such as songs, chants and stories.

Secondly, it is the way farmers on Guadeloupe grow banana plants by cutting down their whole banana plantation every five years and plant new banana plants with enough distance between them, so they soil can nurture these very plants properly.

This refers to the ever-more important aspect of how humans deal with nature and their possibly and hopefully ecologically responsible way of treating it.

Introduction

I had a good time today and one of the things I have learned is that you can laugh and still be serious even with people you' be never met. Maybe because we have the same value standard? At the same time i learned that the same country that advocated freedom, equality and fraternity through the enlightment ideas never ment anyone but white men... It is nothing new but this reality where the opposite is internalized in constitutions and laws right up to our time- that there are still Europeans who were born as slaves. I also taught about identity, and pride, and rights to be able to be who you are... And the right to your expressions and your language. I look forward to the rest of the course.
