My favourite track is constantly changing however at the moment is 'Haisama' - Ace (Lumieux Remix). I am extremely fascinated by the creativity of the sounds composed to keep a flowing movement to the entirety of the track. While being a very minimalistic song, the track is still able to create tension and release that really captivates me to keep listening.

I love the ongoing pulsating rhythm. It puts you in a sort of trance while listening. The use of vocal dynamics works perfectly with the electronic aspects of the music.

Too many favourite tracks, but switches between 'Living Single' - Big Sean, 'Paris in the Rain' - Lauv + 10 others 🤣
'Paris in the Rain' was made after Lauv watched "Midnight in Paris', which is one of the best movies of all time. The guitar melody he used to write the song (not used in the actual song) is also crazy nice and extremely good for freestyling over.

"Electronic music" is so broad I won't even try picking a favourite track lol, but some artists and tracks I love in the electronic sphere are San Holo (Vestal Avenue), Gorillaz (anything off Plastic Beach) and Sungazer (Threshold) - all pretty different kinds of music but all technically electronic haha.

I absolutely can't decide on a favourite song/ type of music BUT these are some songs I admire for their production:

'I guess' by Mitski - the reverb is absolutely haunting and it's super evocative emotionally.  It very much captures the feeling of 'yearning'. Absolutely recommend blasting it in your car at night as the rain softly pours down.

'STUCK ON U' by Michelle - an absolute bop, I love the production on this track and how it very much feels like summer - the synths are really cool.

I really enjoy this track primarily because it's instrumental.  I have never been able to register sung lyrics very well, even when they clear in the song's mix.  I don't know why.  I ALSO DON'T REMEMBER LYRICS very well either, so instrumental music speaks to me a lot more, I can focus on the music and what's being played and derive thoughts and emotion from that.

I like the combination of traditional acoustic sounds like piano, violin and voice mixed in and manipulated with audio effects and synthesisers and drum machines. I am a big fan of ambient music when it comes to electroacoustic music, especially works by William Basinski such as dlp 1.1, Harold Budd, and Brian Eno with their use of melody and organic use of synthesisers/technology in their works. I am also very into 20th century orchestral music which inspires a lot of my harmonic and textural ideas.

My favourite electronic work is probably some of the recent work of Kevin Kiner on the recent Star Wars animated series'. Specifically his composition "Omegas Theme" really struck me emotionally. I also will never forget hearing the seismic wave for the first time and being overwhelmed by the fact it was from instruments and synthesisers.

My favourite electronic work is the album Technodelic by Yellow Magic Orchestra. It was made in a very experimental phase of the bands career, and their exploration of drum machines, arpeggiators, and just general recording techniques is really interesting.

Favourite electronic work?: I don't actually delve much into electronic music, but I am familiar with artists like Flume, and some of his tracks from his album Skin. Hoping this course can show me some great electronic music.

I find the idea of recording different sounds and clipping them together. Also I would love to explore traditional recording of instruments/vocals but adding electronic sounds throughout.

I like a huge variety of electronic music and enjoy the process of making sounds. Right now a particular artist I'm enjoying is Feryquitous, who has a really unique style behind their songs. I'd say Estahv is the best example of their style.

Recently a friend introduced me to a German Dj and producer called Solomun - I don't usually listen to a lot of house music but I really liked a song of his called "Around" because of it's super deep funky bassline and interesting melodies. I found it to be more varied and interesting than other house music I've heard before which I find can be quite repetitive.

Ludwig Goransson's music from TENET particularly Trucks In Place because it uses real truck sounds and sirens to create a percussive and intense underscore for the film.

If I'm being honest, I don't know much about electronic music. My favourite artists are the Foo Fighters, Jet, Alice Cooper and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Pretty much love all things rock n roll!

However, as a bass player I've been trying to branch out more into funk music like Vulfpeck, but after looking at some Jamiroquai songs, I want to improve my music production skills!

I'm loving 'Sky Mall' by Vulfpeck at the moment. Absolutely slaps (at least the slap bass does)

I love "I kiss your lips" by Tokyo Ghetto...
I think it so joyful and uplifting! It uses quite a bit of build up and when the chorus comes in it feels quite magic to me! 

I also love die by stella donnelly (how she uses vocal layering) 
and Grace ives approach to electronic music is really inspiring to me.

I'm tend to lean more towards Soul, RnB, Funk and Pop music. I appreciate acoustic and natural musical tones, but I like to experiment with synths, electronic drums and sounds that aren't the typical traditional sounds. Especially when I am demoing some of my original stuff, I like to experiment with different electroacoustic devices to make the tracks pop more. But of course, I'm no expert and would love to learn more about it officially. 

Some of my favourite artists include Tori Kelly, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Beyonce and Bruno Mars. I typically go for music that is funky and makes you want to move or conveys soulful emotions.

I have listened to Pop music for the most part, I feel like i know almost all of the songs on the chart, but I also listen to various other genres like Rap/Alternative/Electronic (Martin Garrix, Avicii...). I would say my favourite electroacoustic album at the moment would be the Dune soundtrack by Hans Zimmer or Nala Sinehphro's Space 1.8 (I think these are electroacoustic albums). I also listen to a bit of electro/dance music when I walk such as DJ Boring or DJ Seinfeld. 

Lately I've been listening to a lot of old 50s/60s jazz (Julie London, Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee).

Though I think music from the past is more my forte than anything else. 

But the main reason why I'm at the con is because of film music. I love film and I love music and film music is like two different worlds combined. I recently changed to Spotify though before in Apple music, most of my playlists consisted of film music. A few composers I like are Alexandre Desplat and Danny Elfman, as they have very unique styles of film composition. 

With electronic music, I'd love to be able to experiment and use synths and more technology into future compositions as I am definitely interested in it. When it comes to listening to electronic music, I listen to a lot of 80s electronic music, and I'd love to incorporate electronic into film music, just like there was electronic in the Antarctica soundtrack which is gorgeous by the way. One of my favourite electronic bands is this Japanese group called Yellow Magic Orchestra who were one of the first people in Japan to release electronic music. And the members are so intelligent and very experimental which is what I aspire to become.

I want to understand the process and craft of creating these sounds. It is definitely my weakest area when it comes to composition.

Electronic soundtracks I've listened to are the Subnautica soundtrack with included soundscapes as well as the Dune soundtrack and the Portals soundtrack.

My favourite movie of all time would be Avatar! It got me into film music and it's craft is so clever in all aspects of film, especially in music

My favourite artist right now is Jack Steadman from Bombay Bicycle Club and his solo work as Mr. Jukes. I love his use of sampling and how he manipulates his samples on his tracks. Blowin steam is my favourite track because he samples a brass section and reverses the sample to create the main melody. There are some examples within this genre where experimentation with electronic instruments began. One of my favourites which comes to mind is Silver Apples, who incorporated WW2 oscillators into their music and got some outstanding results. 

One stand out favourite from the classical cannon is the Turangalila symphonie by Messiaen which incorporated the Ondes Martenot, a really early synthesiser.

Apart from that, as a composer I really appreciate some of the early analog electronic records. Namely Mort Garson, Jean-Michel Jarre and Wendy Carlos.

I've had little listening experience with electronic music, but I do find the use of electronic elements in film soundtracks quite interesting. One work that I guess would fit into the realm of electroacoustic music is Einojuhani Rautavaara's 'Cantus Articus' - a 3 movement concerto for Orchestra and 'birds' (tape - taken from field recordings).

Electronic music is not so easy to meet in my daily life. Before choosing this course, I was almost exposed to pop music and classical music every day. 


Electronic music is very novel and full of unknown for me, which is also a brand new music experience for me, who love music. Compared with other types of electronic music, I am more familiar with the electronic music of the 1960s, which is more rhythmic and melodic, with more repetitive melodies. 

I have listened to some narrow electronic music, and my favorite band is Owl City. Their songs can make me feel smart and bring me more mystery. I hope I can learn more about electronic music after this semester. : )
