         <description><![CDATA[<div>STEAM lab every 2 weeks: 3 grade levels 1 week, 2 grade levels the next week<br><br><strong>STEAM activities:</strong><br>1) create the tallest tower you can using only the supplies given to you <br>(Ex: keva blocks)<br> *use NASA’s Design Process (url link on slideshow)<br><br>2) Ozobot<br>* http://ozobot.com/<br>*Ozobot Bits<br>-begin teaching the young students<br>-start w/ big pieces of butcher paper, or the fill in the blank pages (we have them)<br>-Create a beginning, middle, &amp; end and make the Ozobot follow he line of the story<br>-create a race with 3-5 different codes<br><br>3) Build a Bridge<br>*using Legos, build a bridge that goes over water, but does not touch the water (blue paper)<br>**extension-how much weight can it hold<br><br>4) Hold the Tennis Ball<br>* create a tower to hold a tennis ball that is taller than 15 inches (2 pieces of paper, tape, and tennis ball)<br><br>5) Create a zip line<br>*using the supplies given to you to create a zipline  for your character (paper, tape, yarn, and 10 lego pieces to create your character)<br><br>6) Create a setting<br>*to go with a book that you read<br>*use Keva planks or legos or whatever!<br><br>7) Create a Table<br>*6 pieces of paper and taper<br>*How much weight can it hold?<br><br>8) Code Dash and Dot to dance <br><br>To plan STEAM activities, ask:<br>-What TEKS are you working to cover?<br>-What concepts do you want students to take away?<br>-What does success look like?<br>-Reframe how you wil evaluate what a student knows.<br>-What do Future Ready Jobs need us to teach students?<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Bit.ly/leadfromthelibrary<br><br><strong>Future Ready Librarian:<br></strong>*Librarians have a bigger influence than even principals- every single person that comes through the library is a potential patron<br>*Librarians have to be leaders in their buildings because they support campuses in becoming Future Ready campuses<br>*Librarians must lead beyond the library: participate in setting the disrict’s vision and strategic plan for digital learning and <strong>fosters a culture of collaboration</strong> and innovation to empower teachers and learners<br>      -be strategic in how you spend your time, more than just staying busy<br>*relationship b/w FRL and ISTE standards<br><br>1) Be a force for change and be leaders<br>*being literate means more, now, than just being able to read and write<br>*making decisions/ changes to fill a need on campus or within the district<br>*librarians have the space to do things that teachers cannot do in their classroom space<br> -libraries are perfect for “trying things”: makerspace, technology<br> -tie this “thing” back to the FRL standards<br> -choose the “thing” that will make the greatest impact on your campus<br> -come up with solutions to campus wide issues<br>*find a way to get “a seat at the table”<br> -find a way to contribute and get “a seat” instead of complaining<br><br>2) Digital Age Mentors...Building Partnerships<br>*one suggestion: offer digital citizenship lessons to parents in the evenings<br>*have the emotional strength/ courage to take the first step and inntiate the potential partnership<br><br>3) Know your culture<br><br>4) Tell your story...Be a champion [for yourself and your students]<br>*if you don’t tell your story someone else will<br>*your story is what you value, and how you want your library program to be percieved<br>*ask your students what they want and need their library to be<br>LIBRARIANS CANNOT GIVE UP ON KIDS!!<br><br>5) Leading through equity<br>*we have to lead the way in addressing and closing the equity gaps: resources, access, experiences, etc.<br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>
