Although I agree that unwinding is the killing off of children, it isn't a false belief that they are still alive. Throughout the book we are shown that parts of the people that have been unwound still function when attached to other people. For instance, Tyler (an unwound kid) took over CyFi's brain even though only a small part of his own brain was attached within CyFi's.
-Alexa

One con to unwinding is that the children that are being unwound don't get a say in the decision. Another con is that people can get priority to body parts over others depending on their job. For example, juvey cops get priority in case they get injured.
A con is also that people can call "dibs" on body parts rather than the unwinds deciding before hand who receives their body parts.
-Tanya

Adding on, the Admiral's son (Humphrey) was unwound. Towards the end of the novel he and his wife gathered everyone that had a part of his son's body. During this gathering many people spoke out and connected through this child. One guy had Humphrey's arm, another had his son's voice, and yet another had his brain. They all shared stories that happened throughout Humphrey's life, and that proved how the process of 'unwinding' isn't actually killing the person.

We chose this conversation because it was difficult to figure out how to respond to this overall question. "Unwinding" is the process of children under the age of 17 getting every part of their body torn off and used for other purposes by other people. The government of this book says that unwinding is very great for this society because it helps keep the population alive and doesn't kill off older people. The reason we had lost so many people in the first place, was due to The Second Civil War. Adding on, it's been happening for a long time in this story and even some children are getting the honor and privilege to be raised up as a 'tithe'. (Being born and raised to sacrifice their body). On the other side however, these children are being raised up just knowing that they're going to die and not have a chance to live their life like they should have the right to do. They don't even have the option to stand up for themselves because their parents are in charge of what happens to their child's bodies. Furthermore, we enjoyed this conversation because there were many different ways to approach an answer for this and we could keep going back into the novel to find text evidence to help show our side, and argument.
