Poland does not have any natural protection, and so it has been prone to attack from outsiders. 1776 was a disastrous year for poland.  It was that year in which prussia, the austrian empire, and russia took their first bite at poland. They would strike again in the years after, and it would go on until poland was wiped off the map. Poland would be temporarily restored as The Duchy of Warsaw, Although after the Congress of Vienna (Which ended the Napoleonic wars) The duchy of Warsaw was basically deleted and given to Russia. The Next time poland would even exist as an entity was in 1918, after the end of WWI or The Great War. Yet another division of poland would occur at the start of WWII, and after that, Poland would become a Soviet Satellite State until the USSR's Collapse. Ukraine first became an actual political entity in 1917 (actually August 18, 1649), Because of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk That forced russia out of WW1. The USSR Annexed Ukraine Again during the Russian Civil war, and after The USSR Won the Civil War, Ukraine was Integrated as A Soviet Socialist Republic or an SSR. Ukraine still existed as a political entity during the soviet era, because ot wasn't fully integrated into the other SSR Territories. Ukraine Existed as Ukraine SSR until It gained independence on August 24, 1991. In 2013, Russia Annexed Crimea, and now Threatens a full-scale invasion of the country. Ukraine Has Asked to join NATO, a millitary alliance formed in combat to the USSR's Sphere of influence. Now that it is spreading to eastern europe and the balkans, Russia feels threatened and seeks to regain as much territory as possible from the countries that will look to join NATO in the future. Belarus has good relations with russia though, probably the only nation in europe to have very good relations with them other than serbia, because most of the EU and NATO recognizes Kosovo as a country. Alright, i am probably going too far with this for now, This is the story of Ukraine.
