I think that recognizing where we come from, how we were taught to live, what was expected of us, etc. is important to truly understand our perspective of the world today. I think that knowing and understanding where you come from is important for working with diverse students in a classroom. It has us really think deeper about what people experience vs how they are perceived from first impressions. So it is difficult think about just one, but what is fresh in mind are the topics covering discrimination, prejudice, race, poverty and class, oppression. I’m eager to learn and dig into these topics more to get a better understanding and to critically analyze.

I never looked at the different types that are within the students and classroom. It opened my eyes to fighting and implementing Engagement and Justice for ALL Learners. Where the different types of Knowledge Construction (Personal and cultural knowledge, popular knowledge, mainstream academic knowledge, school knowledge, and transformative academic knowledge, should be implemented in the schools, community and in the classroom to fully uphold student engagement.

They define Classism as the systematic oppression of poor and working people those who control resources, such as education, and is often ranked the type pf job one holds and their level of education . What I learned from classism is that there is dominance one class has over the other. I have always believed that all people are equal. Their focus on the challenges of the impoverished and how they are perceived in society made me really think of how students separate themselves in schools. It is difficult to teach students to overcome these differences since they are coming in with preconceived notions that their parents and society have set. It is even more difficult to change the mind of those students who have learned to believe they are not enough. We need to first validate our own prejudices first before we can move forward. You can't create a social communtiy classroom if you haven't accepted and learned from your own prejudice.
