Don't matter who they are, anybody sets foot in this...."
In this quote Calpurnia is disciplining Scout on how to treat their guests. This quote also tells us that even though Calpurnia is just a maid she kind of plays the role of the mother in the house, she's a mother figure to the kids.

Scout
"It was sticking in that tree yonder, the one comin' from school"
In this quote Scout eats a gum he found wrapped in a tin foil in a hole in a tree that was outside of Boo Radley's place. This quote is important because this quote shows that Boo Radley might not be as bad of a person as they say, as the gum he left for them was completely safe to eat and was a way for Boo to communicate with others (trying to make some friends). It was a present/ offering/ sign of friendship from Boo Radley.

Mr. Nathan Radley
""Tree's dying. You plug 'em with cement when they're sick. You ought to know that, Jem."
In this quote Mr. Radley lies to Jem about the reason why he cemented the tree. We know he lied because later on in the chapter Atticus tells Jem the tree is not dying and that it was as healthy as he was. This quote is important because it seems as if Mr. Nathan Radley is trying to siege off any communication of Boo Radley with someone outside of the house. This hints/ lets us kind of know that Boo Radley might actually be a nice person and Mr. Nathan is just trying to hide him from everyone else.

Jem
"Atticus?"
This quote is important even though it is such a short one because when Jem says this he find sout, for the first time, and saw his father make a perfect shot. He never knew that his father was such a good 🤬 as Atticus never let his kids know of this side of his. Out of shock Jem says that and tries to process what is going on at that time.

His reason is to keep his reputation as a person as well as a lawyer in the town.
