Do I think it’s fair?

No, I do not think in anyway is it fair because we are not all the same people and the colour of our skin and the medias stereotypes should not define a culture. If a non-indigenous youth stole a chocolate bar from a store, people would forgive them or blame something else but it is not the same issue for aboriginal kids. People believe all indigenous people are no hopers in life, with no jobs or can hardly take care of their children. The media stereotypes these people to be the bad guys in all situations without giving them a chance because that’s what we were made to believe by the media.

the media portrays the indigenous people as dirty, poor, no good thief's. it also says they get to many rights and funds. this isn't fair because if indigenous people get equal rights to non-indigenous people why is a 12 year old boy going to court for receiving a stolen 70 cent freddo frog. If his was a non-indigenous person they most likely wouldn't even face a penalty. this is why I personal think that the media portrays indigenous peoples negatively

How has the media portrayed indigenous people in Australia? The media has shown indigenous people as disgusting, violent, drunk etc. The media is being unfair as they are the oldest generation, smart and one big tribe. They are being treated like trash. On the news, most violent acts are caused by ‘black’ people. Us Australians see black people differently, not one us. What’s fair about that. Therefore, indigenous people are not treated equally. by Tyler Busby

They have betrayed them as the usual stereotypes which is drunk, sexist, all that stuff. No I don't believe it's fair because some can be the exact opposite of these stereotypes. Because of racism, some people believe that Indigenous are awful people which are portrayed as savages who go crazy against women like savages whenever they don't make something they like, even though thats how we used to act and some of us still do. This is because they think they are always drunk which is a clear lie because too much alcohol can kill you.

The media portrayed Indigenous people in Australia in a negative way. They portrayed Indigenous people as drunk, violent ,lazy and always stealing, which is not true. For example the media extensively covered the one-punch death of the white teenager Cole Miller, but the one-punch death of the Aboriginal man Trevor Duroux went insane on the media. A 2015 survey of more than 350 articles about Aboriginal heath, published over a 12-months period, backs her up. 75% of the articles were negative, and only 15% of the articles was positive. The 75% of the articles were about negative stereotypes of Indigenous people.
This is not fair for the Aboriginal people because not all the aboriginal people are bad. When a white person does something bad, they don't care about it. The media doesn't show anything positive about Indigenous people which is totally not acceptable.

The media is always portraying indigenous people in Australia badly. The media always talks about them being slack and not being able to look after themselves. Research shows that aboriginals are 20x more likely to commit violence than anyone else and although they only represent 3% of Australia's population, 28% of Australians prison are aboriginals. I don't think this is fair to the exceeding amount of good indigenous people that just want a normal life without their reputation being ruined by their reckless peers. But with everything on the media it can also be a reminder of the dangerous people we need to be careful and take precautions of.
