She included in her speech the root cause of low health literacy, its detrimental effects, and some helpful solutions to educate ourselves about healthcare and to the current issue by developing strategies to raise everyone's level of health literacy. I learnt something about the topic and thought it to be interesting, but her monotone delivery style made it uninteresting and boring. And when listening to talks like that, speaking in monotone is one of the major causes of audience boredom. Even the most inspiring subject can become inane due to it. Additionally, it seems as though she simply memorized her speech without really digesting it. But I suppose what matters is that her speech taught me something new.

People had indeed relied heavily on what they see on the internet and did not even bother to fact check what information they consume.

The discussion of the improvement of health literacy is extensive. Ms. Harini Senthil speaks slowly but clearly so that everyone in the room may understand her. Even if she was somewhat boring, she nonetheless gave priority to the crucial details. She gave a timely presentation that was backed up by statistics. She discussed the concept of health literacy and used the COVID-19 as an illustration of how false information is frequently disseminated. She underlined that in order to deliver high-quality healthcare, it is crucial to have knowledge of trustworthy resources and the ability to tell what is credible from what is not. We frequently look to the internet for sound guidance when it comes to taking care of ourselves. However, not every information is accurate, so we must use caution. Healthcare professionals are responsible for attending to patients and clearly explaining the procedure to them. Not all patients and people can comprehend what medical professionals say, particularly when they use medical jargon. Because of this, it is the nurses and other healthcare professionals' responsibility to clarify their terminology.

But I can respect the fact she is speaking her mind on a stage in front of a crowd; nevertheless, speaking to hundreds of people at such a young age can be nerve wracking so I don't blame her for speaking this way. Anyway, the information Ms. Senthil has provided are reliable, she even cited the CDC's definition of health literacy, which is defined as the ability to find, understand, and use information and services related to healthcare. One of the information that she has tackled in her TED Talk is the abundance of misinformation during a pandemic, one of the key components in delivering quality healthcare is having the right information.

I will agree with my blockmates if they say that Ms. Senthil’s speaking style may appear uninteresting for most of the viewers, because of her inability to put a stress on the things that need emphasis. However, towards the end of the video, the message she imparted really caught my attention. Before finishing her talk, Ms. Senthil advised the audience not to be afraid to ask because one’s health may be put at stake. This caught my attention because most Filipinos, especially the youth, often choose not to seek consultation from professionals because of various reasons such as inconvenience and fear of judgment. Moreover, as a third world country where most of its citizens struggle financially, many of the masses also choose to disregard their health because getting sick is in the least of their priorities. However, what Filipinos tend to forget is that ignoring one’s health for a long period of time makes things more costly and troublesome which is why paying attention to one’s health is very important. Another thing that caught my attention is Ms. Senthil’s reminder to stop spreading false information about health so that it does not outweigh factual ones. This is another common scenario in the Philippines where majority of us, especially the boomers, tend to easily believe what they see on the internet without fact checking it, thus sometimes making this worse.

Indeed, the pandemic has exacerbated healthcare disparities, and many people are unaware of the medical knowledge underlying their healthcare decisions. Unfortunately, not everyone recognizes the importance of mental health, and it is frequently ignored and overlooked since not everyone is aware of it, or worse, some individuals feel that mental health disorders are not real and are only in people's minds. After watching the video, I became even more motivated to spread the word about the importance of mental health, beginning with my family and friends and then hopefully expanding to a bigger audience.

Harini Senthil’s "The Treatment Plan to Improving Health Literacy" provides statistical evidence as to why healthcare literacy needs to be prioritized, but the way she delivers it isn’t convincing enough to the masses that she’s trying to persuade. Senthil mentioned that only 12% of adults in the US have good health literacy, according to the US Department of Health and Human Services. This is an alarming rate because it has huge consequences for our healthcare on a much larger scale. Just for this COVID-19 pandemic, fake news about a "cure" or whatever has been going around without any medical evidence that it is effective, and still a lot of people believed it. She ought to find a solution to the problem, by diagnosing it, examine its effects, and come up with a treatment plan. But the video lacks energy, as does the speaker. There’s no use of visual aids to help in communicating the message better. The treatment that we need to improve health literacy is good communication. If patients and medical professionals have good communication, this can lessen misinformation, thus improving health literacy.

Misinformation leads to nothing good, especially when the health of the person becomes involved; this could lead to worse problems, additional health issues, and even death. It is important to be informed and be given the knowledge to assess which resources are valid, and the rising amount of people who are becoming victims of misinformation proves that this is a topic that isn't given the priority that it should have.

She emphasized the truth that we must face, and I, as a nursing student, agree with her completely on every point. It's true that patients' choices about their health are often made for them because of a lack of health literacy on everyone involved. As a result, it is of the utmost importance to us as nurses that we provide our patients with all the information they need to make informed decisions about their care, that we provide them with a comprehensive range of treatment options and allow them complete autonomy, and that they feel comfortable enough to ask us questions at any time, so we must establish rapport.

It comes as no surprise that just a small percentage of the population is health-literate. People are dismissing the healthcare system as a result of the surge of misinformation on social media sites. As stated in the video, individuals with poor socioeconomic status are among those who are affected since they merely want to employ the simplest method to alleviate their health concerns. This kind of concern is especially prevalent in the Philippines, where Filipinos follow what they see on social media platforms in the hopes of finding a fast treatment or home remedy. Trolls that disseminate misinformation should be stopped and prevented. The government should direct people to credible information by also using social media platforms, since that is the most popular way for people to acquire information, or through medical missions, particularly to remote areas.

As a future nurse, hearing Ms. Senthil's talk made me feel cautious of how I would be speaking to my clients regarding their plan of care. The fact that not even a quarter of the population posses health literacy is very alarming. It somewhat became a reminder to me and to others as well that there is still a great need to improve the healthcare system and how we disseminate health information. Controlling and debunking misinformation about health should be one of our priorities as well, especially now that the masses are easily swayed by information circulating online. Such misinformation, if not corrected, can pose threats to the health of the people.

Ms. Senthil lingered on issues of health literacy and the spread of false information in the medical community, particularly at this time of year when pandemics are prevalent. People did, in fact, rely heavily on the information they find online and did not even bother to confirm the accuracy of the information they take in. However, because it relates to health, it is becoming riskier because it may result in harm. I agree with the speaker that action needs to be taken to shed light on the situation and raise awareness of it in order to protect everyone's health as well as to inform the general public.

The talk, however, tackled important issues in healthcare nowadays. Being ignorant and misinformed of your own health is could result to worse health conditions than we think they do. People should be proactive about their own wellbeing in order to live their life fully and make most of everything.

Judging from the way Ms. Senthil communicate with the audience like me in the video, she’s quite slow and monotonous in speaking for me. I would just suggest that since the video was also made for our generation where young-adults like us will be listening, I think it would be better if it would be livelier for it will catch the interest of the listeners. I also like that Ms. Senthil's material is trustworthy and that she even acknowledged the CDC's definition of health literacy, which is the capacity to locate, comprehend, and make use of healthcare-related information and services. The prevalence of false information during a pandemic is one of the topics she addressed in her TED Talk. Additionally, I've learned that having the appropriate knowledge is one of the essential elements in providing top-notch medical care.

I wholeheartedly concur with what Ms. Senthil had to say in the TedXYouth video, and I find the topic to be very intriguing because I intend to work in the field of mental health advocacy in the future. In point of fact, the epidemic has worsened existing gaps in healthcare, and many individuals are ignorant of the medical information that informs the decisions they make regarding their healthcare. Unfortunately, there are some people who do not acknowledge the significance of maintaining good mental health. As a result, this topic is frequently neglected and disregarded because not everyone is aware of its significance. Even worse, there are some people who believe that mental health disorders are not real and are only in the minds of those who have them. After viewing the film, I felt even more inspired to raise awareness about the significance of maintaining good mental health, starting with those in my immediate circle of family and friends and then, with any luck, moving on to a more widespread audience.

A lot of people believed instantly what they tend to see, watch and hear in the internet without conducting a research or what they called fact check. It is understandable that they are worried about their health and needs to act fast but anything that is not tested or verified with research can lead to danger. In conclusion, I agree to MS.

One of the notable factors that I recognized from the talk of Ms. Senthil is that she was unable to sustain the interest of her viewers and listeners into her talk as she was not able to fully immense her audience into the situation and her topic. However, the discussion on the current situation on health literacy is alarming as we are also affected by the same problem where people can be easily lured into disinformation which can affect an effective health teaching and nurse-patient relationship. A low percentage of citizens that are literate in terms of health-related concerns gives rise to greater problems of having congested emergency rooms, ineffective public health programs, and increase in the cases of communicable diseases due to hoax and disinformation about its severity and transmission. The talk of Ms. Senthil provided a reality check to the healthcare professionals to be facilitate a more conducive health teaching to their patients, build a stronger health literacy programs, and strengthen the campaign against disinformation to raise the discussion on health and wellness.

Ms. Harini Senthil talked about the treatment plan to improving the health literacy of people. I honestly found this TEDxYOUTH video highly informative and insightful, since she is also coming from the same age group. Her knowledge is very much wide being able to speak about health information in front of a lot of people. I felt the urge to actually contribute to the treatment plan in order to solve the low health literacy that we are experiencing around the world. Especially now that we are still experiencing the effects of COVID-19 pandemic, it often feels like we are surrounded by a lot of health-related information. However, it is also evident that there a lot of false health rumors spreading on social media. Because of that, health literacy hit rock bottom. Health literacy is defined as the ability to find, understand, and use information and services related to healthcare, however only 12% of adults in US have good health literacy. Consequences of low health literacy are widespread, so it is necessary to find solution in this overlooked issue. Firstly, most people do not know about the protections offered by their health insurance company, and because of that, they will not be able to make informed decisions about health care cost. Approximately 25% of people in the US do not seek medical care because they do not know if their health insurance can cover it. Secondly, health literacy is also the ability to sort out false information about health. The combination of low health literacy and the widespread of false health information makes it harder to identify reliable public health sources. To solve this, we need to avoid sharing information to social media if we find it suspicious. Lastly, language and cultural barriers are preventing patients to make health decisions properly. They were not able to comprehend the information given to them, contributing to low health literacy. So how do we really solve the issue? What would be the treatment plan to improve health literacy? First, we need to increase knowledge about health insurance terms, and do not hesitate to ask questions about what you do not understand. Second, avoid sharing misinformation on social media to make it easier to identify accurate health information sources. Last, we need to comprehend accurate health information in. This is the treatment plan to improve health literacy.

During the talk, though Miss Senthil may speak vividly, I find her monotonous style irritating and hard to focus on. Nevertheless, the topic is very current, and I totally agree with her. Misinformation have had its peak especially during our age where technology is rampant. In addition, our country is suffering from wide spread of false information especially within the government. Furthermore, to the topic discussed, health literacy is also a thing here in the country that hasn't gotten focused on. Like with the misinformation, many people fell for Facebook posts that has gotten a lot of engagement. In conclusion, the importance of being knowledgeable about health literacy and proper dissemination of real information should be given an extra focus especially in our era when a push for folly is evident but are blindly seen by the masses.
