Have you noticed any improvement in knowledge or skill so far? In what way? Why or why not?

Throughout this course, I have made slight improvements in my communication skills, primarily through the increased frequency of speaking techniques, with the aim of being more intentional. This is evident in the increased frequency of techniques such as hand gestures and anecdotes.

What parts of lessons have been less valuable for you? Explain.

The importance of speaking clearly as unless i am required to talk in an actual uncomfortable situation, i am able to enunciate my voice to be clear.

Considering what we've completed so far, what areas of oral communication seem to be most important for you to continue to develop? Why is this important to you? (considering you've just completed FFPP, this might tie into pathway planning and your interests)

The most important areas for me to develop over the length of this course are the skills of communicating with new people in an effective, respectful manner, fitting the conversation, which I did effectively.

How can I continue to support you in class to develop these skills? What would you like to see more of in the classroom? I can further improve this through continuing to communicate and practice these skills within the classroom.

Mock Interview

In this, I did a mock interview where I practised an interview for a job where I might apply to be at KFC. I did this through answering possible questions and planning talking points, which I might go over. This was effective as it allowed me to communicate effectively, where I matched the correct tone for the conversation.

Reflection

How did my tone, pace, and clarity of speech contribute to (or detract from) the professionalism of my responses?

The tone and pace I used were good as they allowed me to both emphasise my words, which were more important, as well as allowing me to speak in a way that matched the professionalism needed. This is shown through the calm tone as well as the clarity of the words I was saying so that the interviewer could fully understand.

To what extent did I balance professionalism with authenticity in presenting myself? Did I successfully build a connection with the interviewer, and what choices contributed to (or prevented) that connection?

I feel I used the tone of voice to perpetuate the professionalism I aimed for, as the words I said and the way I talked of myself were meant to be authentic, showing my true self to the interviewer.

If I could repeat the interview, what would I change in how I presented myself, and why?

If I were to do this again, I would aim to be able to talk for longer, increasing the amount of detail in the words I was saying, as I feel i talked for slightly shorter than what I would optimally aim for. I feel the amount of hand gestures could also be improved, but I feel that it was still an improvement over my normal life.

In this assignment, we looked at a video and wrote ways the speaker in the video communicated and the skills they used. We then wrote some things which we would try later, then we talked to a partner, attempting to persuade them to do something.

I feel I did well in this assignment due to my implementation of the decided techniques during the practice persuasion. I feel, however, some of the techniques did not show to the maximum effect that they could have, such as the use of hand gestures. This could be improved in the future by me using expressive hand gestures to improve it. I also believe I spoke clearly and effectively and emulated techniques well

Within this interview, I planned a loose script to talk to Hamish Darling, who was acting in an unknown character as I talked, and I adjusted my script, attempting to learn more about him and use the skills that I had planned. This is shown through the eye contact, hand gestures, and the way I listened when he was speaking. I feel I could have done better further with my hand gestures, as I only began really running the hand gestures in the second half. The interview recording was also cut early because some of the interview to not be in here. I used the questions, and clear voice and an intrigued tone to attempt to gain information from Hamish.

This has worked throughout the course through the betterment of my skills and has lead to my communication skills being stronger.
