Foot binding in China, was a traditional and cultural practice, that caught on with Chinese women in about 970 A.D. The emperor of the emperor of the Tang dynasty was at a dance performance, and he saw his favorite dancer, who had small, deformed feet, and he loved the way she had them wrapped in lotus cloth. This pleased him, and this gave women the idea to start binding their feet, to please the emperor. Foot binding is the process, when a young girl, about 4-5, had her toes broken, and tightly wrapped in bandages, to make her feet smaller. Every couple of days, the bandages were tightened, and more toes broken, so the foot got smaller and smaller. The ideal size for the foot was about 3-4 inches, comparing to a normal foot being about 7 inches. This tradition was practiced to please the emperor, and look beautiful, because the chinese viewed small feet as beauty, that had to be done.

Foot binding is demeaning towards women, making a painful experience for them.The overall goal was seen to make the women unable to work, and look "beautiful".When looking at the facts, their feet would get infected, and probably cause all sorts of problems
