Differentiated instruction starts with one lesson, and then as students struggle, the teacher reacts by trying to give each one the lesson in a way that works for them. It may seem like more work, but it will be more effective and save time in the long run. You can't just start with, "Turn to page 83, we are going to pick up on paragraph two. As I was saying . . . " and start teaching content. That was a big statement and warranted more elaboration than it got. It went by so fast, I didn't get it in my notes but I remember him saying it.
