One of the strategies used in this chapter was the use of cloud computing. This is when one uses the internet to store documents instead of flash drives. This also enables other users to gain access to the documents that are made public. In this chapter, the district collaborated to decide the most beneficial type of cloud storage by asking questions to narrow the outcome of online storage tools. The district chose Dropbox. It was used to collect materials and resources with the students, and students could use it to turn in work electronically. Teachers would create assignments in Word, Power Point, videos, manuals and make them public, enabling the students to view and complete assignments. This was done to help save on the rising cost of educational materials and resources. The students created their own Drop Box accounts but there was a concern for students that did not have at home access to the internet. The district made sure to supply sufficient internet to students and referred students to the library and also the opportunity to get paper assignments and assessments. The staff members continuously shared and collaborated about their experience with Drop Box to ensure success with the program. Staff and students found this program to be a much simpler way to share documents and assignments. Teachers found Drop Box to be a more authentic learning experience for the students as well as more engaging. The skills gained by utilizing Drop Box were collaboration, use of technology tools, web-based tools, information literacy, and evidence-based opportunities.

On My Own. Google Drive

The strategy that I have researched on my own is Google Drive. This is also "cloud computing" where information is shared through the internet. I prefer Google Drive rather than Drop Box, it is not whether one is better than the other, more like one suits my needs and the needs of my students. Google Drive is a great way to collaborate and store information. You are able to create folders just for yourself and team folders. Photos, pictures and videos are able to be shared. Google Drive is accessible from chromebooks, tablets and mobile devices. Google Drive encompasses
Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, and and office suite that permits collaborative editing of documents, spreadsheets, presentations, drawings, forms, and more. Files created and edited through the office suite are saved in Google Drive. You are also given a ton of storage (15 gigabytes). Google Drive is very easy to use to manage your classroom, whether you teach elementary or secondary. You can create classes, distribute assignments, give quizzes, send feedback, and see everything in one place. To communicate you are able to connect with email, chat, and video conference. To collaborate you are able to co-edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations in real time. My favorite part is the management aspect, which enables you to build to-do lists, create task reminders, and schedule meetings. This is great for teachers but also allows for students to begin managing their own education!
