Feeling the pop in my hip, and realizing something could be seriously wrong during this game is the moment that everything changes for me physically. This moment connects to my identity by it starting my journey of resilience with this, due to me realizing I will have to push through this obstacle.

2. The Diagnosis (A Week Later)

Being told that I have a fractured hip and that I need surgery is the moment where the seriousness of my injury hits. It sparks a period of uncertainty, and fear due to my future with sports and all of my other summer plans now being at risk. In connection to my identity, it also marks the time where I have to start preparing for the challenges I will face, and be ready to confront them.

3. Surgery and Recovery (Post-Diagnosis)

Going through surgery, and starting to have to be fully reliant crutches lead to the start of a new physical, and emotional recovery period. In connection to my identity, I was determined to adapt and adjust to these limitations the best I could in order to continue excelling academically, which reflects my personal strength and my desire to push forward the best I could given my situation.

4. Preparing for the Japan Trip (Before Summer)

After weeks of recovery and uncertainty on what I will be able to do, I decide to not let this injury stop me from going on this once in a life time trip and I commit to going to Japan. I feel this decision reflects a core part of my identity as a person, my drive to push through discomfort in pursuit of meaningful experiences and things that need to be done.

5. Experiencing Japan on Crutches (Summer 2024)

Travelling through Japan on crutches was difficult to say the least, but despite my physical limitations I managed to climb some of the biggest temples in Japan, as well as successfully navigated the country. In connection to my identity, this event symbolizes my resilience and ability to persevere through challenges no matter what they are.

6. My Crutch Bottoms Break (Mid-Trip)

While in Japan, I faced another challenge which involved the bottoms of my crutches to be completely worn down. Dealing with this was tough, but I persisted and ended up getting new bottoms finally, allowing me to move better for sure.

7. Returning Home and Reflection (Post-Trip, 2024)

After I got home, looking back on the trip helped me realize how much this injury helped me change my perspective of the world, and myself in a great way. I also recognize how, in connection to my personal identity I can overcome and try my best to succeed no matter what.

8. Looking Forward to Senior Year (Late 2024)

As I move forward with this injury, I am not sure how everything will go, but I feel confident in myself and the people around me to support me in what I do. Overall, this event as a whole highlights my ability to persevere and be resilient, which I will continue to carry into all things throughout my life.
