I subscribed SDL Trados on Youtube and owing to this I am able to catch up with the latest technologies and updates. There are plenty of tutorials that I gradually watch to enhance my understanding of Trados. But apart from that I still want to consolidate the knowledge, which I gained on my classes. I want to particularly focus on brushing up on aligning files. During my translation studies I translated a lot of texts and it would be a great idea to make glossaries out of them. 2) Secondly, I chose two texts, the general and the academic one.
3) Then I translated the texts in the specific systems (NMT and SMT).
4) I used MemoQ to align documents and create translation memories.
5) I started to postedit every text according to the instructions (with a 2-day break). I recorded it by Flashback Express. Owing to it I know how much time it took me. I could also easily come back to the process for the future error analysis.
6) Next, I created a document in which I noted the results of the analysis.
7) I analysed every text and counted errors. I created a separate document for the tables with different errors.
8) I created charts with the results of the analysis.
9) Finally, I revised my document with the results to ensure that everything is correct.
Preparation of this project took me more than a week because I wanted to do it precisely and credibly. I am now very curious about how it will change in the future. I would like to make an experiment (maybe in a year) where I could again translate the same texts in NMT or SMT and I would see how much it changed over the course of months. I think this is one of the most fascinating areas in translation because it is developing rapidly. It also raises the question if MT will ever replace humans.
